SC 1980 radio wiring

i have a question for some 1980 guys, im putting an original radio back in my car and trying to hook it all up like the factory had it before the po got a hold of it. as it sits right now the radio works with the front speakers plugged in to the radio and works great.
i have since realized that it has a factory amp at the bottom of the dash. i have a 1980 factory wiring diagram manual but the amp has gray and white wires coming out of it into a four pin connecter and the manual has no mention of that color wires. does that connecter suspossed to plug up to a connecter for the rear speakers?

also the thick black cable wire coming from the amp, does it plug right into the radio from the amp?
thank you for your help as im sure you can tell i don't know i lot about sound systems, and just wanted to find out for sure so i didn't mess up my radio.

"Standard" 80 didn't have an amp that I have heard. 79 Limited does, under the pass seat. Your ID pic shows an LS - maybe they were different? Is your 80 an LS? LS wiring updates (such as power door mirrors) are NOT in the OE 80 Electric manual. A later service bulletin details LS wiring diffs and maybe the radio too, since it was unique to LS. You say the amp has a 4-pin plug. Is there not a matching one in the radio? Other wise maybe it is supposed to plug into the cassette deck? Do you have the cassette? Just guessing here. Pics would help!

hey stu its kevin i just changed my avatar. well that wiring diagram i got off ebay shows it as having a factory amp that's what got me looking for it, sure enough there is on bolted to the bottom of the dash frame with a clarion sticker on it. it looks like the rear speakers are suspposed to plug into the amp then the black cable plugs into the radio according to the diagram but i just wanted to make sure that was the accurate way it was before i hook it up.

hey Kev - thought it might be you... amp there? sweet. gotta be an LS option. yah if connector plug matches you are pretty much guaranteed to be good. know you don't want to cook that fancy new radio!!

yeah that's is odd how that manual you found for me shows it having an amp and rear speakers. it just doesn't say what colors the wires are coming out of the amp. never the less I hooked it up the way it appeared and................. it works awesome! it over doubled the volume and sound quality. so if any one else has an LS and needs to know how the wire the factory radio I have it down pat now lol. I would like to know if the amp is ls specific or if it was something that could be ordered on others?
