I am getting a 1980 LS from a friend and fellow forum member, It needs a gas tank, I know that the 79-80 SA's had a different tank then the FB s2's. Is there a way to retrofit a later G-tank onto the 80? I was thinking of fabricating some mounts to drop the tank a little lower, to make room for the spare well, and mount the later tank that way.... Anyone else done this and if so how, if not why is it not possible?

I saw someone on here that made a custom gas tank (welded box), it looked real good and probbaly held more than the stock tank did.

Something to look into?

 

Fuel cell, is a possibility.

 

my 83 has a different tank than my 85, i would suggest the s3 models because you can remove the tubes (fuel supply, return, vapor). why does it need a gas tank? if it is just rusty but not leaking a radiator shop may be able to flush and re-seal it for maybe $100 bucks or so?

 

It can be done. I have a 79 in the Yard now that has a later tank on it.
