1979 ignition swap

I have a bad ignition switch in my car. the key wont stay on after the car starts iv checked fuses they all are good. I was just wondering if I could swap it with the one in my 85?

Also heres a pic its the only way I can get it too stay turned on so the key don't flip back iv been running it like this for awhile now. Could this interfere with othere stuff in the car? or wreck anything else?

Im running a jumper wire from b/w to b/y in the pic

Ill be doing the dizzy upgrade tomarrow as well so I just wanted too get this sorted out at same time.

The 79 and 85 are different. You need a 79/80 ignition switch. They are pretty easy to take apart and clean. Just look out to not lose the little ball bearings. I think there are two that have spring under them.
