160 degree thermostat

quick question, where can i buy the 160 degree thermostat? summer is coming up and i just want to be safe.

auto parts store offered me a 160 and a 180 and stock I think it was napa auto parts

the only person ive heard of actually making a 160 that fit like oem, was rotaryshack. make sure you have lots of cheese..

theres a bypass in the pump when you gut the thermostat like we do for racing applications we have to tap and plug the bypass otherwise the cool water will circulate back through the rad and the hotter water will just stay in the motor. When you block it, it forces the water to circulate through the whole system.

as for the original question. I don't understand why you would want a 160 degree themostat to protect the motor. With a properly functioning cooling system, stock thermostat should work fine.

ok i don't have pics but when you take the spout off the water pump when you change the thermostat, look down into the water pump itself. directly below where the t-stat was, is about 1/4" hole. that's the "bypass" i am talking about.

the stock temp thermostat is 180. the fsm lists the temps between 182-197. go with the 180.
