WA 13b swap questions

Alright, so I'm a while away from being ale to do the swap in my GS, but I want to start shopping now since parts can be scarce around here.

From what I've read, I will need:
-Any 80s 13b
-S3 oil pan and front cover
-GSL-SE ecu and harness

I've also read that I will need to do something with my fuel system, but haven't found any info on what exactly. I currently have a carter fuel pump, some kind of fpr, and stock lines. Will I need anything else for fuel system?

Also, which harness do I need? Just the interior, or motor harness or what? Obviously I'll need the interior harness for the GSL-SE ecu, but I'm confused on the motor portion.

Last question, is this relatively the same for the t2 swap? I've read about guys running haltechs and mega squirts, but I'm not trying to go broke in the process. I mean, it makes sense to me that I could get a harness and ecu off of a t2 it should be the same.

All input is greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Sam.

Why not stay with a carb(s)?

Add a header to your list.

Honestly I just don't like them. They're outdated. Plus I don't want to go through the trouble of trying to tune one to work with a 13b when I'll likely go through the same trouble trying to get fuel injection to work. And the fact that for*the same price as any of the carbs I would want to buy I could get a good condition 13b. Good idea on the header. Probably would have remembered at some point but glad you said something because there is one for sale relatively cheap on the local craigslist.

for the physical swap, its just a matter of slotting the engine mount, swapping to a 1st gen front cover, using a GSL-SE oil pan and doing something for the exhaust. for everything else, its a matter of how far you want to go with it. when i did my S4 13b swap, I used all the FC engine electronics, engine harness, fuse box and main relay and meshed them into the FB chassis and already had a fuel system that was EFI friendly (5/16" fuel lines and an external EFI fuel pump.... among other bits)

You need to be more specific. Are you wanting to swap a GSL-SE's 13b into your non SE? Or are you wanting to do an FC engine swap? If so, which version (s4 or s5)? Each has their own requirements.

In general you will need a FB front cover (GSL-SE will accept an S4's omp, but not 100% nessesary) and a GSL-SE oil pan. You will also need the front engine mounting bar Racing Beat makes to get everything to line up, -or- get the GSL-SE crossmember -or- modify your existing pieces (engine will need to move 20mm forward)

Wiring requirements vary greatly depending on what engine you want to install. Once you have more specifics we can help.

Fuel system also needs attention, some of us have modded our FB tanks to use an FC in-tank style pump, others have used the GSL-SE tank and external pump, while still others have used the stock FB tank, with a surge tank and external pump.

Many ways to do it, really all depends on what exactly you want to do.

EDIT: sgt stinkfist posted the same time I did lol

I have no idea what motor I would use. I'm tryng to spend as little as I can will still doing it right. From what I've seen, s4 motors are the cheapest somid probably go with that, or even an SE. I just want more power than the 12a can offer, and get rid of the carb.

Matt- Trust me I'll be hitting you up about it. Matter of fact, text me when you have some time.

If it were me and I was on a tight budget I'd probably go with a S4 NA and run the stock ECU. it's 45 more hp than the 12a and with a SE front cover and oil pan it's basically a bolt in deal. Obviously you still have the wiring and fuel system work to do, but overall it isn't that hard.
Matt can surely help you out
