13b swap....

I came across an 88 rx7 that has been sitting for about a year. Have not seen it yet, but from my understanding the body is in decent shape, and the engine/trans were perfect before he stored it. Only wants $500 for it. My 80 is in much better shape so I was wondering what else I could swap out of it aside from the engine and transmission. I have a dowel pin leak in my 12a so I was looking to rebuild, until I came across this. Any help is much appreciated. This is looking like an end of winter project, and I most likely will have a lot of extra parts to get rid of.

Sounds easier to fix up the FC and sell it. Then you'll have enough to rebuild the 12A.

Nobody wants an SA with a 13B in it.

here's the deal... i've done an EGI swap...a good friend of mine has done an S5 EGI swap...not for the faint hearted. there are a lot of things you will need. the main problem you run into is integrating the S4 EGI harness and ecu into the SA's chassis and wiring harness. i went with a GSL-SE engine swap and it literally just bolted together and i installed the entire SE harness. i can make you a detailed list of what you will need in terms of parts to do the swap if you would like. took me four months to properly perform teh swap and replace all worn pars in order to get the car 100%/

Assuming you keep the SA transmission then actually getting the engine in there isn't such a big deal, but as they said, the wiring will take you quite a bit of time, plus you need to convert the fuel system over to high pressure FI style in order for it to work. All this that have been done before, but it's definatly not a bolt in...
As Jeff was saying, the SA's are becoming more and more desireable as collectors cars, if you have any plans of selling it in the next few years it would be in your better interest to keep it stock... Thats just our opinion though

To be honest.. I don't plan on selling it. The body is too clean and I like the car far too much. So what you guys are saying is the 13b swap is too much for the trouble? He said the car ran perfect before he stopped driving it. Just needed brakes all around, and he was expecting a newborn.

Do a brake job on the FC and sell it. Make some cash for your SA.

If you plan on keeping the car forever then make it what you want, but like we said, getting the engine in there isn't the hard part, its the fuel system and wiring that will take most of the time to get right.
I would probably take Jeff's advice in this case, fix up the FC enough to sell it for a profit and use that money to rebuid your 12a, or just find a good used one (theres a few left out there)
