The 13B-REW is only found in the 3rd gen. Rx-7. The 13B-RE is the Cosmo engine.

GSL-SE is 135 hp; Renesis is 238 hp with the 6 speed, and I think the auto version is 192 hp.

the car im getting (gsl-se) has an 88TII motor with 89TII rotors, with 9.0-1 comp. how many ports will this engine have? 4?...it is running n/a. does that mean that im missing out unless the engine is turbocharged?...if not turbo'd, would it be a faster motor as a 88 or 89 n/a from factory? how much horsepower would this motor put out (without taking into consideration the mods it has done to it? would it be closer to 146 hp like the 86-88, or 160hp, like the 89-91. remember it has 89 TII rotors....

by the way the engine is ported, has a weber ida carb, rb exhaust, and msd ignition parts.....so how much hp WITHOUT the mods?

The Cosmo is a model of car. It was produced by Mazda in various guises from the late 70's until 1995.

No sir they are not. The gsl-se one uses 3 MM apex seals, heavier rotors. Also has the grove for the water jacket on the irons rather than the rotor housings on the later 13b's. Ports are different size, the SE motor didnt have that stupid EGR port.

When you go out and look at the jspec motors the cosmo 13b's are around $1000 less then the 3rd gen 13b's...I know the cosmo with the 13b was rated at 235? 230? hp and the 3rd gen 255... whats the differences with the block its self... are the ports different at all??? Why are the cosmo motors so much cheaper?

s4 =87-88 =160ish
s5 =89-92=180ish
both turbo from factory. Major difference are the intake manifolds and to a smaller degree the ports on the housings are slightly different I think. So in reference to the question, I would say minus the mods, the motor since it has low compression rotors from the turbo, with the s4 housings maybe 140 na.

Both are twin-turbo. The difference is in the turbos, ports, manifolds etc. The RE is designed more for low end torque so it could move a heavy luxury coupe like the Cosmo.

Supply and demand. There were more Cosmos made in Japan, so more JDM Cosmo motors are available, and there were no Cosmos sold in the US, so there is relatively low demand for them over here. The only people that want Cosmo motors are gearheads like us who don't mind reconfiguring a few things to make them work in some other chassis.

The Cosmo you're referring to was a 12A from back in the '70s, right? The one we're talking about is the later version with the twin turbo 13B.

Yes the Cosmo was sold here in 92-93 I think. It came with the 13B-RE.

Also, for some reason I remember reading about the 929 having the 13B-RE at one time.

in us it was no on the cosmo in any year but the mid 70s. a number of pamplets had the 13b option on the 929 listed but I do not think any were shipped here or avalible for purchase. mazda sales history does not show any new cosmos sold in can in the 90s. gray maybe.
