Couple of suggestions. I'm always leery about using used fuel pumps, even more so in a turbo application. If you plan on using an intercooler, check out XS Power on eBay. Here's a couple that would work on a 1st gen.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...2BSI%26otn%3D4

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/XS-Po...spagenameZWDVW

As far as a fuel pump, a stock SE pump will meet your needs, or a less expensive external Walbro 255 lph. Either way, I would upgrade the fuel supply line to 3/8", the stock 12A line will be to restrictive for a high pressure/volume FI pump. You'll need to look into adding a surge tank to insure a constant fuel supply. It's all of the little needed mods that really add to the price of going turbo.

I've also modded a few fuel tanks to accept the complete 2nd gen in tank TII fuel pump assembly. This eliminates the need for a surge tank and in some cases, a low pressure lift pump to pull fuel from the tank to feed the FI pump and surge tank. If any of that interests you, PM me. You probably should read up some more of modding fuel systems for turbo applications on a 1st gen. If they are done wrong or inadequately, then you'll be rebuilding the engine due to detonation.

If you need a reference on tank mods, PM dj55b or Dan S Young. I've done both of their tanks, one is a turbo, the other is an NA-FI. I go completely through the tanks, having them boiled out, resealed, stripped, repainted and undercoated on the outside. Basically a new tank by the time I'm done.

Update:

So after a while of doing some cosmetic work to the car, I'm ready to get back on track with this turbo setup. I was able to pick up and old HKS 6 port turbo exhaust manifold that I'm going to use (thanks Royce) as well as a Carb Hat that needs a little modifications. Going to have the manifold cleaned up soon (thanks Fris). With this turbo exhaust manifold, the S5 turbo is out of the question. I'm going to be looking for a T4 turbo, perhaps something along the lines of a t04b, and something similar to an HKS 40mm standard wastegate. I'm going to be doing some other upgrades such as ordering the RB street/strip clutch and pressure plate, as well as an RB lightweight flywheel. Once that's all installed as well as new aftermarket FP & FPR, I will be close to completion! Here are some update pics of the parts.

Glad you're happy with it. I'm sure it was worth it, the manifold should be good to go.. and the carb hat.. I can have it cut and re-welded on the right side I need it for like $60. So it's all good, thanks again! :icon_tup:

^ If you can get the Iron manifold to work out for you, that would be the better bet. The stainless mani's are of course prone to cracking so if you can get it sand blasted, lap the flange, replace the studs, that manifold will treat you right. 40mil wastegates maybe a little small for controlling lower boost(not sure, someone might need to chime in), just seems like running high comp rotors and low boost the wastegate may have trouble keeping it from spikes/creeps. GL with the project! Keep this thread alive.

Thanks for your input. Yes, I'm already planning to have it sand blasted and replace the studs. I have no doubts it will treat me right. :)

Thank you sir! Manifold was dropped off to be sand blasted today. :)
Ordering my RB Clutch/Pressure plate/Flywheel this weekend!

Kerebrus 12-08-08 04:51 PM

Score! Received my new RB Street/Strip clutch, pressure plate, and the bearing. RB Lightweight steel flywheel already at the shop. Here are some pics!

Taking the car in to have the RB clutch, pressure plate, and lightweight steel flywheel installed. FP and FPR are next. Right now the carb hat is being modified at a shop for my sidedraft and the exhaust manifold is being sand blasted/fixed up. Hoping to see big improvements with the new clutch / fuel setup before I turbo the car. :D

First off, nice car, great project. Also, where did you get your wheels at?

Also, great score on the manifold. Another source, (if still available) would be Renee at RX3mist. He can custom make you a tubular manifold, and his prices were very affordable. (He made FB II's manifold, that utilized a S4 flange, placed the turbo higher and towards the front right of the engine bay.) SKYLANCE now has it on his car, I had it for a short period but never utilized it.

Is your mallory FPR a rising rate regulator that compensates for boost? Enlarging the fuel return and feed line is also a good idea as sugested earlier. You may also want to consider a 255lph fuel pump, or just go all out and get an innovative.

Have you considered, or purchased a wideband? Other future options could be getting a FMOC off of a FC also.

Good luck, happy holidays-

I'm happy with the FMOC on my car now, works great! Also, I'm going to be using the following. Fuel pump will be a MSD 225lph, and the FPR will be a Mallory 4309.
Thanks for the tips and advice on the other stuff :icon_tup:

haha.. nah. I mean it would be smart but I just dropped like $400 in RB clutch/flywheel parts that wouldnt fit a T2 tranny so no point.

Robert says you can use your current clutch set up with a TII tranny, just need an RX-3 bell housing. That's what he told me.

I am planning on a TII swap after I get the motor sorted. First things first.

I just know with the stock tranny I top out at around 120 in 5th gear.

Can't wait to see this project done, you are gonna have so much fun.

Who's helping you with the build?

Oh really? Hmm.. I guess i'll have to look into that then. Would help a lot i'm sure. Mexico is helping with the build, who else?

this is true, all you need is the rx4 bellhousing, your existing clutch set up that you got already, and the tII trans, also might have to shorten the rod on the shifter housing about 2",so it sits in the stock location.

btw i have a s4 TII trans for sale, and a complete rx4 trans thats for sale also,i was going to use them so i can mount the turbo trans on my rx2,but it's just over kill for my little 12a motor.

Kerebrus 12-24-08 01:31 AM

dave, yea I was talking to you about that trans. I'm just not in the market for dropping $$ on a trans im not going to use anytime soon.. right now my main concern is dropping $400 on fuel stuff/install. I'm still thinking about it though, will let cha know. thanks man!

I did not notice you had the FMOC, my mistake. You may want to consider going with the aeromotive (think that is the brand) EFI pump. Talk to Robert and see what the limits of the 255lph are, and if you would ever exceed them.

Lastly, you never said, where, or what kind of vehicle, are your wheels from?

No worries! Robert was the one who recommended the 225lph so I'm sure he feels it will be effective enough. In regards to the wheels, they are an aftermarket model from ARE (American Racing) that look just like the Enkei mesh ones. These are 15x7 with a +7 offset.
