13B 6 Port Turbo Project

Alright, so I'm finally getting things going. I have an 85 S model RX7 that has a very nice 13B 6 port motor in it. The motor is stock port but is very strong and runs great. Right now I have a Weber 48DCOE carb with Racing Beat upper and lower manifolds, with a full exhaust this is quite a powerful setup. At the moment I'm in the process of adding turbo application to this car, so this is the beginning. I'm planning to use the following for this setup..

Stock S5 turbo
Custom turbo exhaust manifold (RotaryShack)
Custom mandrel 3" exhaust (RotaryShack)
MSD fuel pump
Mallory fuel pressure regulator
MSD blaster 2 coils (2x)
Locked dizzy (RotaryShack)
6 Puck Race Clutch and upgraded PP
Intercooler (?)
Custom Carb Hat (RotaryShack)

Right now I already bought my clutch and fortunately do have a very nice oldschool Spearco intercooler that I might use, might not right off the bat. I'm in the process of purchasing the custom carb hat, fuel pump, FPR, and down pipe. Also already have one MSD Blaster 2 coil just need to grab one more off ebay or something. So, right now I'm in the market for a used S5 turbo and once I get that, will purchase the custom turbo exhaust manifold (expensive). I will be posting pictures up as I get new items and once we do the actual install. I plan to have this turbo setup complete as well as a nice new paint job before Sevenstock XI so should be interesting to see the completion progress. For people who are interested in learning more about blowthrough turbo setups this thread will help. This is semi-cost effective way to do it and depending on your motor could turn out well.

Look forward to seeing pics of the intercooler and clutch setup tomorrow. Here's a picture of the car and engine bay as of now:

Also, for anyone in socal that has an FB, Once I do this setup change I will be selling my racing beat road race headers (dual inlet/outlet) as well as my racing beat street port prima flow muffler, so if you wanna call dibs on either let me know. The headers sell new from RB for $240.. with tax and shipping probably comes out to $290, i'm willing to sell for $200 shipped or $175 pickup. The muffler sells for $315 new so probably about $380 tax and shipped.. I will sell for $275 shipped or $230 local pickup.

sweet ride, GL with the blowthrough setup, very interested, subscribed!

Thanks buldzor, I'm hoping everything works out great.

Update:
Ordered a stage 2 clutch from F1 Gripforce arrived this past weekend and is being installed today. The 6 puck race clutch seems to be good but like I said I will eventually need to get the racing beat pressure plate, the one it came with isn't that great. The carb hat, MSD fuel pump, and Mallory FPR will be arriving next week friday. I might be picking up the turbo this weekend and if so will throw up some pics.

Subscribed as well :) Keep it up, can't wait to see the power levels :D

Update:

So, the carb hat plenum and MSD fuel pump will be arriving this friday. I'm also purchasing a S5 turbo off a j-spec motor this week as well. Finally, on friday I'm getting a brand new 2-1/2" downpipe from racing beat. All that's left will be to buy the Mallory FPR and get the custom turbo exhaust manifold from my mechanic. Still debating if I'm going to use the intercooler or not.

Use an intercooler! I have a W2A here with me.

W2A? What's that? Haha. I want to use one.. but I gotta figure out how much more it will cost me for piping and installation..

Water to Air intercooler. More expensive, etc.

But if you went air to air, it would cost about 200-300$, depending mostly on your core. EBay will be your friend for the core and piping. Piping usually runs about 50$ a set, for good pipes that you will use, comes with couplings. Just don't go too big on the IC, and if you go in on one side and out on the other, you will have to relocate your battery. PM me if you have questions :)

I already have an intercooler to use and it's a perfect size (will post pics later), but yea I would need to get piping and find out how much to install. Very interested though :)

I bought it from a buddy who lives about 25 minutes from me, who originally bought it from RotaryShack. If you're going to buy a Weber and want it to be prepped nicely, get it from rotaryshack :icon_tup:

Your price was good no doubt. Some people have quoted me over $200 so yea..

XS Power on eBay has decent intercoolers and custom turbo headers for 13Bs. Stay away from their turbos. The manis they have are setup for T4 turbos and fit around the TII intake mani. There are ways to mod either stock S4 or S5 turbo mani to fit around the SE intake. It's not that expensive to do, takes a couple of header flanges and 2 short pieces of schedule 40 pipe. That will tilt and push the turbo away from the intake runners. The same mods can be done to XS Power's turbo header and the oem turbo can be used by changing the mounting flange.

The way the XS mani is made, extending it out may cause clearance problems between the turbo and inner fender if the above mentioned mods are made. I have test fitted the XS mani and turbo on an FC and clearance is tight.

If you have any other questions about modding the exhaust mani, PM me.
