Yep, big bearing GSL or GSL-SE rear end from an 84-85 S3 FB is your best bet. I had one with a 225hp TII motor that I romped on and it held up just fine.

We didn't get those here, I would love to see one someday! Curious if there's a difference between these and our LSD GSL/GSL-SE diff's.

If you look at Granny's Speed Shop, you can just buy the brackets for the Ford 8.8 rear end that you then would need to weld onto the axle yourself for $395.
"DIY Components...
...Stock Suspension brackets only package price....................$395."

I'm planning on getting a Ford Explorer 8.8" rear end for my FB here soon and using Granny's kit to put it in. I'm going to be running a big turbo 13b TII pushing around 400+hp somewhat conservatively. I know I'd destroy a GSL-SE rear end in the process, hence the need for an upgrade.

The 12A turbo cars were Japan only iirc.

I had one that was privately imported into Europe.

Theres no difference between the LSD in 12A turbo and GSL-SE.

As others have stated the rear end will hold up. Back in the 90s i drag raced a blow though turbo fb using road race slicks and it took the abuse no problem.
