Well there are carbed 12at's as well as FI... So like make sure you find out.
And no? As far as I've heard and read 12at motors are not very common and for the full setup bolt in I'd pay that. Especially since a rebuild for a stock motor or a rebuild with core costs from a company would be over$2k.

Remember you'll need to rebuild it unless it has been just recently rebuilt before you cram power through it. Nice thing is since it was all ready built for turbo purposes all you are doing is a normal rebuild with seals and gaskets.

Not sure of the output of the 12at as far as power so I don't know about the TII transmission.
Also about the fit. 12a to 13bTII tranny?

Now RS is run by 680RWHP12a. PM him and ask all the questions. Since he's a member and he knows his stuff his word is good on the motor I'd say.

The 12AT that they put in 1st gens in Japan used the regular NA tranny. I don't know if it used the regular 12A flywheel/clutch or the GSL-SE style. Probably the GSL-SE style would be my guess. It was fuel injected but I doubt you can do much with that. It might even be a K-Jetronic style (mechanically controlled).

I dunno, I would consider the 12AT more of a novelty than anything else. If you want one go for it but I'd just put in a S4 motor.

Like for one, he said a 12a motor cant push 350hp at the while with out moding anything. and he thinks he car can kick anything ***. whats so damn funny is he drive a neon with a power towner think its fast as hell.

The stock 12AT put out 165 hp, it's fuel injected with 2 880 cc injectors. The stock NA tranny will hold up just fine. If the unit is complete, in good condition and basically plug and play with the needed fuel mods, 1200 is a bargain.

12a turbo

Hey mate , approximately 6 years ago i fitted a 12at into my sa22c i used my std gearbox and ran the efi using an MT4 fuel only microtech the spark was handled by the 12at dizzy which is boost referenced and self retards or advances.

To this day its still running with some minor changes just using the FC intakes and a hiflow turbo it made an easy 212 rwhp, this also happened to be the limit of my SA 5 speed.

old set up

I say go for it

more info

It is fuel injected , be it only a basic style they only run two injectors which are huge.

The centre iron has two mounting points for the injectors, the injectors are approximately 900cc each which make them a great upgrade for the 13bt.

Yo I really want to get a 12AT and get rid of my Stock 12A out of my 83 with 178K miles on it anyone Looking to sell a 12AT that is carburated or is very easy to drop in Plug in PLay concept? and would be willing to take a portion of the price off if i give my original motor as a core?

NTRX7, how were you able to run the FC intake on the 12A block? Lots of cutting, welding, grinding, and porting of the aluminum FC manifold is the only way I can think of. Or is anyone in Oz selling FC manifolds to bolt up to 12A blocks?

Either way that's a bitchin' setup you've got there. I remember my friends 12AT in his Series 3 and it was quick! Only had straight exhaust and it was so reponsive. Seemed like a good setup for stoplight to stoplight fun!

Its absolutely-positively fuel injected. So if you are seeing one that doesn't have that shiny metal bit with the painted 'turbo' bit, then its one of two things. Not a j-spec 12at or it is genuine and just had a carb slapped on it.

Other benefit of the 12at j-spec is that it has those fancy microscopic grooves in the rotor housings for the oil, at least I've read that somewhere, this was later standard on all 13b's.

It is just a novelty thing. I too thought about a 12at swap. Its ridiculously hard to actually get ahold of one. Just because a website lists them having one does not mean they do. I went back and forth for months on end with Corksport trying to get one. Finally I gave up. I'd call, they'd say they'd call me back with a price, they never would, call again for them to say they didn't have one and they'd call me when they got another one, I'd call back and they'd tell me that they had one torn apart and they'd call me when it was put back together, and finally after all the back and forth nonsense, I gave up. If I ever do an engine swap, it'll be a 13bt. At least I know I'll be able to find one.

My plans for the time being are a streetport, break in, custom turbo setup using weber carb, and then toying with that until all the bugs are worked out.

Not to mention that you can make more power than the stock 12at that way as well since you are picking every last part. 165 hp is pretty much beginning work with a custom 12a turbo. I think having a turbo so small, and boost so low as to not need an intercooler whatsoever is clue enough to that.
