12a air box shutter?

Do I even need this thing? I'd imagine it just restricts flow. Is it just there to keep critters out?

I don't even know how it opens

Ditch the whole thing and go with a Racing Beat airbox/filter. $60 and the filter is rechargable foam.

It is part of the carb preheat sistem it is activated by a spring that in the cold weather closes the shutter and once the motor warms up it opens it back up. if you have a header and stuff like so you definatlly dont need it. If you need any onther information feel free to ask I will see what I can help you with.
