12 A swap into. . . . Honda?!

I figure this is the best place to come, since it's 12A related. . . .

I have a 198. . . 7? Honda CRX. Got it for free, missing motor and tranny.
It's in PRIME condition, with the exception of those things.

I have access to a couple of spare 12 A motors (one's blown for sure, though), and was wondering if it's possible to do a 12 A swap into these cars?

I figure the toughest part will be the driveline, as these cars are originally FWD, and I can't think of a way to put an RE into a FWD setup (I'm sure it's poss though!)

It would be best if I could at least get a RUNNING MOTOR in there by the end of the week (doesn't need to drive, just RUN).

Any help is GREATLY appreciated, because if I don't get this thing running (Remember, not necessarily driving) soon, the landlord says the car is OUTTA HERE.

Peace.

I would say you're better off trying to make it RWD. Besides that would be a fun car with RWD and a rotary in that. Fun burn outs lol.

I seen one posted somewhere that had a 12a transplanted into it. I think they used a toyota transaxle though. Honda transaxles are setup to go on the passenger side, engine on the driver side, whereas almost all others are totally opposite.
I think the honda I saw, the owner claimed it took a long time to complete, as everything had to be custom fabricated.

IIRC most fwd rotary swaps were done using older protege transaxels.

That's because their engines spin in the opposite direction as most - or you could say the output and acc sides are opposite.

This weekend? Unless you don't have to work and do have a lot of fab experience, I'd say you don't stand a chance. You'd be much better off buying a ZC motor and tranny for about $400 from an importer and dropping it in.

Put a tape player with a tape of a rotary engine running in the engine compartment and dont pop the hood

that should buy you some time

And i agree with what nimrod said, you have little to no chance in getting that goin...

I figured it was hopeless, but I also figured if it could be done, then it would make a fast little sleeper. The body is completely stock, and in PERFECT condition.

Just think, a SP 12a. . . . 1800 Lb car. . . . *preferrably* RWD. . . .
FAST

custom motor mounts, the firewall shouldnt have to be moved, make your motor mounts first. might be good just to build a solid subframe to beef up the front end since you wont have a fwd tranny. **** i forgot fwd means you would have to build a whole front end. i would find a car from a junkyard with a front end with about the same width as your crx, maybe like an fc, or better yet a Z car front end maybe pre-1984. then you would have to do your motor mounts making sure your oil pan....**** buy the zc tranny and engine drop it in, enjoy your new dd.

Cut the front clip from an FB and weld it where the CRX FWD components would be....

Swap the rear axle for one out of a GSL (same as front) cut a hole for the shifter.

Get everything in place and weld the crosmember into place.

Then, when it all fails horribly; pull the engine/tranny and haul the body to the scrap heap.

Hey Dan; you moonroof is in the same place as mine, standing up behind a door...

heh i thought about this before. I wonder how long that install took them. **** , I wonder if its freaking real.

I would have thought that you need to cut out some of the firewall and floor to make room for the tranny, drive shaft and rear sections. The support of the engine looks to be the most challengeing part. I don't know much about welding but i can speculate.

Inreguards to weight.. can't you make the fB go on slim fast while still keeping the stock interior? Anyone have pics of a fb with full interior and weight is less than 2000 lbs?(impossible?)
