$10 D.I.Y. front spoiler

I saw this on a mustang at a local autox and I've been meaning to try it out for so long. I've had the garden liner from one of my neighbors since the spring, but I never really got off my *** to try making it.

Today I did, and I'm actually more than pleased, and I really expect it to work out well. Worse case scenario is... well there isn't. Because I didn't pay for any of it. I just made it.

Huzzah!

Too weird...might be the beginning of something if trimmed up and then built up with some FG work...

You have got to be kidding me. And I thought I was cheap. Thats just plain shitty with all those zipties and I can't imagine that would last over about 60mph. If I saw that on someones car I'd laugh, in fact I'm laughing right now.

A 50$ "homemade" front lip. You'll get it man. Just do your own thing, don't copy someone else. Performance over style, cause performance is always in style!!! Yeah boy! Oh and yes, silver is sublime on these cars. Good choice.

Montana Kid, you forget that everyone here doesn't have the Midas touch like you do. Nice work on the homemade front lip. I might try that one of these days when I run out of projects. Just a quick question for you: How did you melt/mold the bends into the curved pieces that go around the front fenders? Heat gun? Tips would be appreciated. Thanks!

BTW, this reminds me of the Honda guys that put black base cove molding on their front bumpers to make a lip. You know, that rubber baseboard stuff that you see in schools and hospitals and the like? I've actually seen it look good on some cars, but this lawn edging idea looks like it was thrown together a little too quickly...

Exactly. Heatgun. Made a mock up from cardboard then copied the curves I needed with the 1/8" abs using the heatgun and fingers. It's really that easy. The hardest part is making your cardboard mock up. You'll need a jigsaw too. the bottom piece is 1/4" abs. same with the middle. And then I used an 3/4 aluminum tube to fit under the middle to stiffen it up. Lowes has them.

Looking at your pics again after that description, I see what you're talking about now, MontanaKid...outstanding work...you need to do a step-by-step with some pics on a small demo canard, if it's not too much trouble.

Tranquil, you need to do some serious work on that spoiler. Either make it a straight down airdam or do something else. I like the smoked lenses though. Tint in a can?

Nice work Montanakid. Where did the flares come from?

The plastic just comes in flat sheets. All the bends are done with a heat gun and hands. That's the beauty of ABS and why it is used in vacuum forming. When you get it hot it does what you want, and then when it cools it stays.

A couple good links to plastics and glues.
These are they guys I've ordered stuff from.
