Ok, I know you guys know about wikipedia. You know when you are looking up something on wikipedia like Thermodynamics, and 20 minutes later you are reading about Calvin and Hobbes? My friend, you just had a Wikipedia Experience.

Well, this happened to me today. I was reading up on the LHC, and ended up reading on Austin Sprites. You know, the happy "bug eye" cars of the 60's? Well, My grandmother raced them in the SCCA and was a big winner, many trophies back in the day. Well, I went to autotrader to see if I can find out how much these happy cars went for on average.

Well, I found one... And it was in Charlotte! So I went to the website of the car dealership and looked at the pictures it had. Well, I wanted to see what they all had. I noticed they had a link for their race cars.

What's this?

A Mazda?

Yes, friends. This is a genuine Mazda RX-83C. It was the first of its breed, the owner there had EVERY thing EVER that even had Mazda RX-83 in it. Vintage Motorsports magazines, restoration reciepts, Race booklets of the car's lap times on various tracks, Many pictures of its old paint scheme, etc. FABULOUS CAR!

I had to go see it. HAD TO. So I packed my camera and dressed nicely and went up there. The "dealership" was a huge warehouse with tons of old cars in it. It also had a 3rd gen RX7 up there, 1995 bone stock. They wanted 22,500 for it!!! Geez!

Anyways, on to the pictures:








I have more pictures of it, but I only felt like uploading 5 so far. The pictures look a little blurry because I had the camera on the wrong setting, but I changed it about halfway through.

He also gave me about 10 pages of info on the car that I will scan when I get back home.

It's strange when I looked at it. The Collector on the header (you can see a picture of it in the RAR file) doesn't look too flow-worthy, and the engine seems to be built from an RX3 I believe, top mount starter.

The guy said he would start it up for me but it is currently "pickled" so the seals don't stick. I like that term

 

Peripheral port... & why's the coil on the wrong side, & disconnected?

 

There are 2 coils, I noticed the same thing while I was there but I didn't ask.

Also the front drivers side brake cooling duct came off.

 

I vote slap some headlights and turn signals on that bad boy and take it out on the street

i know the top mounted starter fits on pre FC engines, and it seems like they use it on the mid engine cars (maybe it fits with the trans better?)
