yep! ALL of the cars came off the boat without pinstripe. dealers loved to add them though, it added like $500 to the value of the car in the blue book.

so generally if the car is original paint, and has no pin stripe it was never at a used car dealership

When I sold my last SE on ebay, some guy sent me a message stating that he was the importer and put stripes on all the cars in North America. I knew he was wrong, because, as stated here, it was a dealer option.

I would check within the local hot rod circles in your area and find a guy that does REAL pin-striping, not the tape. It's a lost art, and there's some old timers that do stunning work.

Mine on my 85 GSL-Se was painted on, not a decal pin-stripe. High quality. I hated re-painting the car beacuse of that.

there was a stripe kit from Mazda for the SA. I picked up my car with it on there. Of course it was repainted and added later but it was either a reproduction or an original from off the shelf. But as it has been said, they never came from the factory that way.

I'm not sure you can see it here but it goes pretty much all over the car. I will be removing them for the paint and adding most of it again in black once I can find a guy who can replicate it or paint it on while in the booth.

oh, pic

Thread dig! For what it's worth and completeness sake, Mazda did install some pinstripes on certain models from the factory in Japan. They are the thin twin stripes that along the tip edge of the front guards and continue down the side of the car and around the boot.

I know this because the pinstripes are shown in the factory parts fiche for JDM models. They were offered in 2 colours.

In Australia, pinstripes were also something dealers did.

More info on my findings and extracts from the JDM parts book here: AusRotary.com ? View topic - 84-85 RX-7 brochures - original pinstriping

As stated above, there were some accessory "stripe kits" available new from Mazda for the RX-7. My 80 LS had such a striping kit, however it was not pin striping, it was more of a striping accent package. Those are of course long gone and NLA from Mazda.
