When to shift (a neat website I found)
(Actually, I didn't know what to label the thread so I just stuck in something random). This was actually the title of something found on a Honda forum. While I think the original thread seemed a bit, well, contradictory, on proper shifting points, I still figured "What the hell, I'm bored."
Original thread this all originated from:
http://hondaswap.com/racing-driving-...-shift-170680/
And, all that I lacked was the final drive ratio of my -SE. Thankfully, searching on the RX7 forum lead me to Rogue Wulf giving a link to Mazdatrix for all ratios http://mazdatrix.com/faq/ratios.htm (altho FSM had all, minus final drive).
Just enter in all your pertinent info at this website:
http://www.housemanautosport.com/ratio%20calculator.htm
You'll need to know the diameter of your tires in inches, easy from here:
http://www.miata.net/garage/tirecalc.html
Here is the results given on my setup:
What I'm wondering is, what does everyone else think of this? This is the first I've seen this and really the shift points seem, well, off. In all honesty, everyone that has seemed to take their 7 to the track always bring it close to redline, others stated that they dyno'd first to find their powerband.

All of you ROTARDS and half the dumbasses on the Honda forum are looking at this wrong!
Take the above example....that does not mean to shift to 2nd at 4828 RPM or Shift to 3rd at 5193 RPM....
It means IF you take your engine to 8000 RPM in 1st....you will then be going 38 MPH...ONCE you shift to 2nd your immediate RPM is 4828 RPM......take 2nd gear to 8000 RPM...you will then be going 63 MPH...shift to 3rd and your RPM drops to 5193...
Get it????

I think you looked at it wrong. If you noticed, I used the Honda's thread title for this one. See original post when I said I just decided to stick in something random. Keep in mind, I know what speed I'd be in depending on what gear and RPM I'm at, moreso at lower gears, like taking off in 1st and 2nd, and maxing them out. So, keeping that in mind when I looked at the results, I knew it was just saying what would be what (despite the fact it says that at the top). *L* I'm more surprised at the Honda forum people mistaking that.

Anyhow....the chart does work.. I think the way it read a lot of people were thinking that you shift at those low RPM's.. As we ALL know, our cars would suck if we shifted at 4828 RPM....
MMmmmm...cheeseburger sounds good!

*LOL*
The redline buzzer tells me when to shift. I just like how our gearing can really grab speed. Hell, reach past 60mph in 2nd gear, yeah! I love how quick our cars launch.

I autocross the 84 and I never look at the tach...sometimes it would be cool to have a buzzer or bright lite tell me when I am getting up in the revs.
Last Sunday I was racing and most people were hitting their rev limiter on this one section of the track... I just kept pulling through and letting the rotary hum!!! prolly 8000 RPM!

Or... you could just read your owners manual. I shift at 2200 RPM while cruising and 7000 RPM while hammering it in my SA. I shift at 7300 RPM in my FC and it has longer gears. I can hit 138 MPH in 4th gear pretty easily in the FC. It actually slows down in 5th gear at that speed.

Barefoot.....this sounds like a story from the "old man" "Back in my day, we didn't have shoes! We had to drive FIFTY MILES in the snow with our bare feet! And, back then, we had to use our hands for wipers!"
