What would you do?

Terrified.
I wouldn't purely because I'm a rotary fan, and a boxer six fan. Everything else... meh.
If I weren't though, you better believe I'd straight trade so long as I had another car to daily drive.

Yeah, lotus espirit turbo. The guy is a rotorhead, said he had an 81. From what he said, its mechanically sound. What is holding me back is 4 things:
1. Too much time/blood/sweat/tears in this car
2. I love RX-7s
3. INSURANCE
4. Parts price
I mean c'mon. I would have traded him yesterday if I could have, but lotus parts are atleast 5x as much as first gen parts.
Well... if the engine blew, I know I would put a 13B BPT in it or something...

Look the lotus from a pure dollar standpoint is worth more. Stu you need to drive that thing to understand it handles like its on rails man. I say this time and time again while the rx7 is a awesome car it is far from the perfect car especially the 1st gen!

A Fiat X1/9 can handle like its on rails - doesn't mean I'd get another one. My 1st gen is way faster and night and day easier to work on. As for how it compares to a Lotus, I wouldn't bother with the Lotus.
However if you really want it, get it, tell us how it goes, then flip it and get another first gen. You will gain experience points if nothing else.

jeff i loved my fiat x1/9 and my 124 spyder. The x1/9 sucked casue it had a puny 1500cc motor in it that and the fact that it was blaze orange but hey it was a bertone :P
my 124 spyder was a fun little car just required lots of maintenance not for the average joe thats for sure. I even had the big bad 2.0 it was a 74 that someone had but the 2000cc power plant in. Ditched the fuel injection and just had a single weber down draft.
Point being is this stu how ofter do you see a lotus esprit. Thats the factor right there. I have not seen one of those in along time thats why i thought it was a bricklen, another car you don't see anymore! If it where me i would snag it up! 1st gens are easy to find in you're area! ALso dont forget depneding on year and they made them up till 04 i think those suckers have v8/v8 twin turbo's
I am not trying to start or pick a fight but what i am saying is most people here dont look outside of the box at other cars and think the 7's are the end all of cars and they are not they rock! But there is lots better. THat lotus would rock with w rotary in it. I myself am a car lover not a 7 lover per-se i can appreciate all vehicles from the model-t to the de-lorean to the big scam artists that made the fictional "dale" car. I love them all. This last comment is not directed at anyone at all just a statement!
Plus that car got its claim to fame in "the spy who loved me" it was a Moore one not a Connery so that sucks lol!
For all you young bucks that's Bond.......Jame's Bond

Ooh... that's a touch call there.
I would honestly say, which is easier to get?
a new FB to deck out or a classic lotus that you could probably restore and sell or drive?
All up to yyou man.
