147 in my friends 98 BMW 5-series (he was driving). How do I know? "Holy **** son, do you know you just broke the Hamilton County land-speed record?!". The cop was almost excited to talk to us.

don't diss the volvo man
I've had my 88 740 GLE volvo wagon to about 205 km / hr. at 180 it's a smooth as ever. and that's with 360,000 kms on original engine.
I've had my 84 GSL-SE to about 210 before the wind stops me from going any faster.
I've had mum's 2000 protege to 197 (governed).
my current project is an 87 740 turbo wagon. my dream is to pass a highly modified 3rd gen with the one of the new V70R volvo station wagons... doing about 180 mphr, with 5 people in the car, and a canoe on top!!! I'd probably need some James Brown on the stereo too, just for good measure.
those frikin things are $66K on the showroom floor... damn. but 300 hp is nice too

118 MPH in my 1993 Civic LX Sedan... Felt decent, probably would have felt better without the power steering... Also redlined in 3rd and 4th, floored in 5th. Major downhill. Exact speed attained from police.
105 MPH in my 1985 Civic 4wd wagon... Two words... Wind noise... But I guess that's what you get when the areodynamics are only slightly better than a Volvo, or maybe a school bus. That's also high RPMs in 3rd and 4th, floored in 5th... No downhill. The weight made it feel decently stable actually. Stock Speedo.

Katana 750? I hear ya. My friend has a 2001 model and he hits the wall at 240 every ride. That's when I look over at him (from a 2002 GSX-R 750) and twist my wrist to say "go faster"! That's about the time he flips me the finger so I shrug my shoulders and pull on him like a dog who just reached the end of his chain. I've seen 292 kph on the digital speedo many times but I know the bike is only good for 275 on radar as tested by a hundred or so magazines.
My four wheeled personal best is just shy of 250 kph indicated in my BMW 740i. As far as my RX7 goes, the tired 12A boat achor never got it past 170 kph before it spit the apex seals out the exhaust. (figure of speech)

150 mph on my Katana
148 mph on my 911SC
98 mph on my new Suburban
90 mph on my 7 so far.
Most fun? going 150 on my Katana. Sensation is so different from going fast on cars. I could hardly hold my head straight and ride felt like a roller coaster ride but really smooth and see everything like warp speed on Startreck.

180-190 mph in a customer's modified 928 S4
175 mph in another customer's '83 911 turbo, modded
Lots of sub-150mph but a few notables:
130mph indicated in my POS '87 mbz 190E (yesterday)
120mph in my mom's WRX auto wagon (neat car)
150mph on my friend's Yamaha R1, there was a lot more but I was scared SHITLESS
115 in my sister's '82 rx7, that was all, with a tailwind
soo many more.. aren't you glad I'm not your mechanic?
j.p.

I've gone a little over 160mph in my 75 chevy c10. It's far from stock (roller 462 with a TH400 and 3:42 rear gear) It runs 12.80's at 108, but it takes it a while to push through the air above 120. I know it was at least 160(7400rpm) beacuse that's where I pegged my Autometer Sport Comp speedo at. I've also gone 130 or so with my 84 gs, but it was on the trailer behind my Chevy.

Prosthetic head.
115 in the 85 GSL-SE.
120 or so in the 88 GTU, both stock.
The roads around here are hilly and windy.
Oh well. Two more months 'till I get my license back.
Oh yeah- at least 90 in my mom's Caprice Classic! What a pimpmobile!
