but seriously, I'd start taking things apart and start cleaning them. Take the interior apart and start cleaning, painting faded panels, replace/tighten screws to get of rattles, etc. These cars are thirty years old. I'm sure you can find something to mess with.

Well I usually have no money to spend on my build as well, but I know in the end that it will be one sick car, and that no one around my area really drives them so it won't be the normal everyday car you see as well. And I always remember how much fun it is to drive when I get so pissed that I wanna throw the adjustable wrench that just stripped the 30 year old rusted bolt
Great advice!

I started on my engine bay, the passenger side. I now have to mess with the break booster and all them wires on that side. Kinda scared to mess with that side, but dont wanna half *** it.
When I pull the motor on mine I'm gonna start on the body work. A lot of that is cheap. Just bondo sandpaper and some primer and stuff. That way when u have the cash the body is ready for a fresh coat of nice shiny paint
not as much as when you set up a tv in front of the car and you and your gal are in the car enjoying some popcorn while sitting in an otherwise dark garage pretending your at the drive-in
I mean, well I am just sayying, well oh dayum
nevermind lol

I get really high on sugar, then close my eyes and think of an empty stretch of canyon, post rain, just long enough to have mostly dried. I hear it winding out, feel the road rushing under me, elevation increasing. The vibration coming up through the shifter as I throw it between gates for a perfect heel-toe. Then the view at the top. Might take a while, but it will be worth it.

Don't worry, they will never talk louder than the voices in our heads!
Make sure you run through all the gears while making the driving noises.....always spin 1st...bark 2nd...and chrip 3rd!!!!!!Then rev it a few times for good measure.
Just sayin'
If you are a dreamer - imagine a 20B under the hood and chirp 4th as well.........no harm done!

Yup.
That works too; bonding time.
Another method is to have the wife/G.F./S.O. occasionally ask when you're going to get "that old car" running again like you said you could.... or did it turn out to be more than you could handle?

I will finish it, it just wont be as soon as i want it to be. I dont like tearing everything apart, because the chance of losing parts, screws, clips ect.Man spray cans are not cheap these days, when i was young i would pedal my bike to the "hardware" store and get sheets of sandpaper and spray bombs of primer and go to town on my dads old 71 Dodge truck he gave me.
I feel your pain and frustration. I've been in the process of swapping engines for 1 year now. Work, family and money keep me from completing it. My 5 year old daughter keeps asking "Daddy, when will your baby car be fixed again?". Brings tears to my eyes. My wife says..."that was a little ambitious of you don't you think? After all your a computer guy..not a car guy."
I keep looking at other peoples cars for inspiration to complete the project. There are some beauties out there. Keep the faith.

Use with caution, though; women generally reason emotionally, not logically. They will bypass logic traps by changing the subject to one they know you have no defense from.

Explaining to them that confronting and overcoming complex challenges like this satisfies the deep emotional needs men have to control their environment, convince themselves of their self-worth, expand their understanding of the world, and gain status & acceptance among their peers, will sometimes work.
But you have to SELL the performance. They can smell insincerity like horses can smell fear.
Using this approach, explaining that spending time in strip clubs does much the same thing is not advised.
Shorter, safer version; "It's a man thing, honey; we're just like that."
