Talking This thing will eat a bugatti...

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/22826327/

On Sept. 13, 2007, the Shelby SuperCars' Ultimate Aero became the fastest production car in the world. The event took place on a temporarily closed, two-lane stretch of public highway in Washington State. In accordance with Guinness World Records' strict policies, the car had to drive down the highway, turn around, and make a second pass in the opposite direction within one hour.

The Ultimate Aero posted 257.41 mph on the first pass and 254.88 mph on the second for an average of 256.18 mph. Official data were collected via a GPS tracking system from Austrian data acquisition company Dewetron. Guinness World Records later verified data for an official top-speed announcement on Oct. 9, 2007. At that speed the Ultimate Aero broke the official record held by the Koenigsegg CCR (242 mph) and the unofficial record (253 mph) held by Volkswagen's $1.6 million Bugatti.

And the car could go even faster. NASA's wind tunnel testing facility in Langley, Va., found the Ultimate Aero to be aerodynamically stable at speeds up to 273 mph. It just ran out of road. "If there was additional straight pavement on which to accelerate, the top speed would have been considerably higher, so if anyone challenges our record there is tons left on the table," says Chuck Bigelow, the brave soul who piloted the Ultimate Aero on its record-breaking run....

If you had the money, would you buy this car

I wonder what the owner would do when they left the window open, went somewhere, and came back to see me peeing in it...

I would definitely not buy that car, I don't care how fast it is.

For that matter, we are in the first gen section. Why would any of us care how fast a car is in comparison when our love is far from fast to begin with?

I've known about these beasts for quite a long time. Never gained much publicity though. I simply love the way the look. But to make a super car killer I'd be more interested in this.

I don't know if it's honest to call it a "production car". I doubt very many will be made and would be willing to bet a good chunch of the production is handmade.

American made in Washington State, I'll take a silver one!

"Not only is the Ultimate Aero faster than most Japanese sport motorcycles, it also creates g-forces at maximum acceleration similar to what you would experience during takeoff in a fighter jet"

"With a staggering 1,183 hp and 1,094 ft-lbs of torque, the Ultimate Aero's twin-turbocharged aluminum V8 produces more emissions-legal horsepower than any other production automobile in the world (another record for which the company is gunning). The car also holds records for navigating the slalom (73.1 mph), and in the ever-important weight-to-horsepower ratio (2.33)"

I dunno but true supercars should have exotic engines. A twin v8 is a bit dull. Although nearly 1200 hp is no joke. I WOuld of enjoyed it a lot more from a high reving n/a power plant to show off true tuning skill.

How about a real nascar engine in that thing with no restrictor... they do like 9,000 rpms... yummy.

Never gained popularity because it didnt have quad turbos, a W16, was a luxury car etc.

Or a BMW V12, gold plated engine bay, held the production car speed record for 14 years.... (I would rather have this one than any other though... Truest sports car of them all, with maybe the exception being the F40.... mmmmm that would be my garage a Mclaren and an F40... oh and fifty FB's )

I really like the Ultimate Aero, but I think I'd rather build myself an Ultima GTR.

i dunno about you, but I think that a twin turbo v8 making 1200 horsepower is a HELL of a lot more impressive than getting less power from a w16 quad turbo...

i wonder what the interior is like compared to the bugatti,

i mean i know they are both exotic supercars and all, and heck, with 1000+ horsepower who really cares about interior.

I wonder what the build quality is on the shelby's.

The bugatti is probably the most well built machine i can think of.

This car is useless, you're never going to reach the top speed, it'll handle like garbage, be completely unrefined, is hideous, spin out constantly, and break every 3 miles, aka as the complete opposite of the supremely designed veyron. Any toolbox can crank up a motor through forced injection to ridiculous power, it's everything else that the Bugatti does right that this will do wrong.

Just read about the ceiling mounted start button...there's different to make it more functional, and different to be different. Are you going to trust your life to somebody who decided to start the car from the ceiling? I'd rather lick the steering wheel like Clarkson suggested.

I'd rather save that $600,000 spend it on overhauling my Rex and doing the mods I plan, taking the rest of the $550,000 left and spending it on some airsoft stuff, and then spending the remaining $548,000 on an Aston Martin DBS and investing in an M3 as a daily driver, the rest of teh money would go to developing a 30B and some older RX's.

In short, cool looking car, but unless I am a race track driver, completely pointless.

I still think a n/a power plant is better.
I guarantee the ferrari FXX with 720 n/a horses would demolish that gay v8 TT on a real circuit track.

specially if no traction control is allowed.

N/a nascar MOTOR!!!!! i heard they make 1000Hp without restrictors and do 9,000 rpms.... I dunno but that sounds like a bet.

You'd have to be pretty naive to think they built this supercar with the intentions of JUST going in a straight line. They posted 73.1 in the slalom? That's pretty damn good. I'm not sure what the weight of this car is but i bet it can run with the best, reliably.

PS: Nascar is lame.
