Tach intermittent and 100kmph alarm needs to be killed
Hi guys
1. Just brought a 79 rx7 yesterday and drove it 6 hours with a "bing bing bing" going the whole time when I was sitting above 100ks. This needs to go!
2. My tachometer stopped as soon as I got on the open road, works if I give the dash a good thump so I'm guessing it's a bad connection? Dry joint?
I was going to pull the dash apart to sort the noise so if there's any threads hints or tips on pulling everything apart and sorting this out it would be greatly appreciated.
Cheers
12abp with a 48mm Ida so the 8grand tach is irrelevant anyway haha

First off there should be no indicator or alarm at any indicated speed. There may be something going on with the cluster or something that someone installed is failing or something someone installed as a joke.
The tach dropping out sounds like a faulty connection or bad solder joint on the cluster.

Note a joke. Been told it could be a jap import to New Zealand which had this terrible feature along with a lot of old Toyotas. Can't find any information on how to remove the bloody thing.
Pulled out cluster and tweeked and spread pins and works a bit more often but still drops out.
Might just try find myself a new cluster and save the investment

I think all Japanese spec cars back in the day had to have that alarm installed to indicate you were speeding. It's more than likely going to be a small box on the back of the actual cluster - similar to what we have here that chimes when you leave the lights on. If I have a minute tonight I will dig out my JDM turbo cluster and see what the back of it looks like, it's been a while since I looked at it lol
