I had some questions due to my recent project. I bought a clapped 81 RX-7 that I am sticking a 13b into. I plan on keeping the tranny from the 81 but swapping the 12a out. I want to make only around 260hp-310hp. My first question is will the stock N/A transmission work for that power. Second if so how much boost should I run and what is a nice turbo to use. Third of all I am going to rebuild my 13b before I put it in my fb chassis, so what rebuild kit should I buy. Should I overhaul and if so how much. Thanks for your help in advance.

The trans might hold up to the power if you aren't slamming it everywhere. That's the limit on the first gen transmissions. You'll NEED a very aggressive clutch.

How much boost?? 8-10 #s Should do it. But you'll have to be able to ignite and fuel and deliver that mixture. Not a simple question of boost=power level.


Rebuild it first there is no choice here. Those are small power levels so you don't need crazy expensive seals. Just use RA or Atkins.
