And I realize the SE suspension swap is pretty common, but I can't imagine someone taking the time to do it to a 12a automatic car.

I am confused.

That's a GS or GSL, with SE suspension.

1985 GSL Automatic with the GLS-SE suspension swap. The interior/seats/door panels are of the GSL variety.

It still boggles my mind that someone who had access to an SE donor car would go through the trouble of the SE suspension swap and not go ahead and do a 5spd conversion.

I'm just blinded by my abhorrent hate of the automatic. Pay me no mind. I was kind of hoping it was some rare Canadian market package that I hadn't seen before so I wouldn't have to acknowledge that someone loved their auto enough to actually go through the trouble of giving it the SE swap.

If you could get him down to $$300-500 it would be worth it as a parts car. Looks too rusty to take on as a project though. The SE suspension is worth a couple hundred bucks. Looks like it has some nice interior parts left. The engine is probably usable, or good for parts. The auto trans cars came with the rear counterweights that are needed to install a light flywheel on a 5 speed car so they are worth $50-$75 usually. There are some good parts on that car, but I wouldn't bother saving it or building it back up. The auto cars are just not worth it. The cross member bolts underneath are in the wrong place even for a 5 speed trans, so you have to make weird adapter brackets to even switch it over. Buy it for parts, or find yourself a rust free 5 speed car to start with.

I'm not in the market for it. I had a friend send it to me asking about it. If I were to buy a 1st gen, it would be an SA, preferably a nice 80 GS with no sunroof. I'm kind of picky that way.

You might be able to interest Ms DIY in the auto trans for a few bucks, too, seeing as she's dealing with a leaky one just now.

Definitely a GSL as Ham stated, rear wiper on hatch.

Wouldn't be a bad car for parts, SE suspension alone can be worth up to $300 in itself. I have two local 7's, one being a true SE and the other an 83 GSL that comes with the car. But the bugger with this stuff is where to put it! I already have an FC that needs a home, and I can't put two more cars in the yard (as much as I'd love to). If you have the space I'd take it and part it out, but that's enough work in and of itself as well.
