running or not?

it seems that about half the 1st gen people i talk to have cars that are not yet road worthy, or in need of some form of repair.

where are you in the mix?

Just a rolling shell and extra parts car at this point. In the planning and research stages. Hope to have it running by the time my 6mo. old is ready to learn to drive.

As of this moment, up on skates in the garage.

With a little luck, tomorrow will see the first re-start in a couple years, and a rollout around the neighborhood. Highpoint of a resurrection project started in...July?

(fingers crossed)

hopefully running in the next couple of weeks! I'm in the midst of installing RE-Speed's rack kit then just need to plop in the 13B.

It's been almost exactly 1 year since she went down

Running great, just minor stuff that needs done. Thermostat housing is leaking from when I swapped motors, I need to reconnect the back up switch, and just need to swap my Eibach springs back in the back(fronts are in). I kinda don't see how it takes so long for people to get their cars up and running. I pulled the motor out of my FB last year(blown front rotor) and it sat for a year until I pulled the RB springs out of it in the summer(I got lazy and never put the front struts back together so it sat on stands). A couple weeks ago I had a 3 day weekend and I decided to pull the motor, radiator, and oil cooler out of my SA and put it into the FB. My dad and I started at about 9:30 in the morning on Saturday and we had everything in and hooked up by 7 that evening. We fired it up at about 7:30. It fired up on year and a half old gas that was in the tank, plug wires that got soaked in the rain, wiring harness that sat out in the elements for a year and a half as well as the starter. I put the struts back together with the RB springs off of the SA, put them back in the FB and brakes back together and had it driving the next day. So with the right amount of help, all the tools you need, and the supplies, it's easy to get your car up and running
EDIT: I fail at paragraphs

Running like new for me!
Ok just the engine since it just got fully rebuilt with just over 500 miles so far.

Still need to install new brake master cylinder since my old one is leaky. Also need to swap back to my fmoc and address drivetrain vibrations (u-joints or tranny mounts) and replace all the suspension and steering bushings.

Hey, I resemble that remark!

In my case, it's summed up by:
1) emissions required
2) parts availability (had to make some)
3) available time
4) one-man show

If I didn't need to actually pass smog, the car would never have been offline in the first place. Parts rarity made for a long wait to put it back on line.

Come to think of it, if it wasn't for all the offline time, the car would probably be worn out by now... & offline waiting parts...

Yeah a Cali-smog legal SA would be incredibly difficult, especially with only one person. I don't have to deal with emissions or inspection as I have Maryland Historic tags. The longest part about it was just getting my RB muffler welded on since I don't have any welding equipment. So I drove her a few days on RB header and straight pipe. God it was loud and sexy LOL

not....

my friend built a pro7 car in the late 90's. the last of two track days it did was in july of 2002. it then sat in the rafters in his garage until we did some swapping summer of 06.

it fired right up, but upon inspection it needed lots of stuff. i drove it home. yanked it apart.

progress has been slow.

but

engine is NEW (rotors, stat gears, shaft, housings, oil pump) 12A PP, balanced, mazda comp oil pan and baffle. Trans is rebuilt with new bearings, synchros, hubs, forks. brake master is new, booster got rebuilt. the weber IDA is rebuilt.

right now i'm doing wiring, which is going slowly.

it should be terrorizing the streets in early 09, i plan on making it pass smog too

My supercharger belt slips, does that count as a repair needed?

The only time mine isn't running is when I take it down for upgrades. Even then, with Jeff20B's help, it never takes long to get it back together again.

DD, running great, needs front bushings

future plans (indefinite time)

rebuild engine (eventho it's running strong it still has about 130k + and it's getting old)
boost it maybe add a small street port undecided yet
re-do suspension
and just a few odds and ends such as 2nd gen alt. e-fan and what not...maybe new paint job

but i'm happy with it right now lol.

Running great right now. Took me about 3 months to get it on the road, buying new brakes and doing an auto to manual swap.

For the future:
TII swap
full suspension redone
new paint
and other minor exterior work.

Rusty's in mothball mode parked but still running condition. Just fired her up for 30 minutes today to finish off the swill (old gas).
