replacing carpet

im wondering if there's a guide

I noticed that the carpet is split into three parts. the back are(under the hatch), under the seats, and in the drivers side and passenger side.
im having trouble with the frontal area because there's a big black piece of plastic that's sitting on the carpet and with the very little know how of these cars I have, Im kinda afraid to do anything to it because I dont know what it is or what it does therefore I dont know what itd do to the car if I slightly damaged it and since im out of a job currently I dont have the money to replace anything

Im doing this because I got bored and decided why not. I had left over carpet from my dads boat thats the exact same shade of black as the stock color so why not....in the future if a drink spills or something on accident its marine carpet made to get wet i wont worry about it to much

Its your interior heater assy. Bolted to the firewall. I think "theoretically" the carpet should pull out from under it, but then, you'll need to loosen the center console brackets first. Bit of a pain...
