Who has "racing seats " in their FB? What seats did you buy and what did you do about the exhaust hump near the trans tunnel. What size person are you. I'm 6'2" so head room is a big deal? Thanks,Rob

 

I have F1Spec Racing bucket seats

They are bolt on because the seats will attach to the factory mounting hardware. No modification required and so that removes the issue about the "exhaust hump"

EDIT:
I'm 5'7", but I have no issues with head clearance. The seats are adjustable in height so I honestly think even someone who is 6'2" could make these work comfortably.

he put it on the stock tracks, he likes the seat really high up so like tall people still don't fit, but they could if the seat got dropped down.

its better if you can find somewhere to go SIT in a bunch of different seats, they do usually offer different widths, and sizes and stuff

 

You guys should post some pictures of them in your car. I have been throwing around the idea of getting rid of my stock seats for awhile now.

 

I have a pair of recaro speed seats that have been recovered with black leather and suede, they are out of a porsche 944 that a guy had redone. They match my the interior quite well, have adjustable leg bolsters, and are very comfortable. I am 6 foot 2" and modified 1/4" steel plate to mount the drivers side, passenger side is still not mounted up properly, so I am keeping my eyes on this thread for tips and how others have done it.

 

did you use the fixed position or the tiltable seats? they seem pretty good priced and i like how they bolt on to the factory mounts. none of the others do that. do you have any pictures of them in your car? im very interested

 

Dan S those look nice. What is the height on the back from the bottom edge to the top. The Bomz I'm looking at are 37 inches tall. I know they are "cheap seats" BECAUSE they are not FIA certified but really who cares. Really all you would have to do is bolt/weld in a bar behind the seats if safety is that big a concern. The exhaust hump was for the WIDE catalytic converters. I have a racing beat exhaust and I think I will just beat down the hump with a wood block to get the extra clearance. I'll never go back to stock so again who cares.Its under the seat and carpet.

 

Show me a picture of the passenger side (without the seats),
and I will show you the easiest way to get it done. and keep the seats level.

 

Well the problem is not the floor on the car itself, but more so how the rail mounts on the inside of the factory seal rail. It's on an angle, I will have to take some pictures when I get a chance here. But somehow I will need to make the flat bottom on the aftermarket seat mount up to the angled factory rail bracket and be as solid as possible for safety...

The drivers side was very easy to just use a piece of 1/4 steel and make a bracket to go between the factory rail and aftermarket seat.

 

Trust me. You wont make it any weaker. Get the pic.

I have a set of corbeau forza seats in mine. They are actually comfortable enough for me to drive the car everywhere and my back doesnt kill me.

 

I bought these seats from Luis when he parted out his blue widebody. In the 2nd pic you'll note the aluminum shims that I added to the RH side of the passenger seat to try and level it out. Refurbished the stock seat rails and used them. One thing I don't like about the seats is they're too tall. When I try to fold the backs forward, the tops hit the roof.

I wondered how these would be on my back since the padding seems quite thin. Turns out they're more comfortable than the stock ones due to their ergo-metric design. Side bolsters do make getting in and out a tad harder since I'm not as young and flexible as I used to be.

 

Scott, what I am curious about is how you did the left side rail of the passenger seat. I thought of the idea of shims like that as well, but the stock seat bolts onto an angled portion of the factory seat. Where as the aftermarket seat is flat mounting.

Maybe I will need to take some pictures to show exactly what I am talking about, I would like to see how you did the inside rail. Also interesting in hearing Alex's suggestion.

 

There are a couple of shops out there that make "Made to order" brackets, and will custom make them to desired height.

 

Dan, I used the stock seat rails, that's all. I added the shims on the RH side cause the seat tilted towards the door. It's been so long since I installed the seats I'll have to look and see if I made any other mods.

 

The Sparco pro 2000 looks (awesome) like the La-Z-Boy of racing seats.
Though a leather La-Z-Boy recliner would be half the price of the Sparco.
I just have stock 85 GS seats in my 81 S.

 

They're fixed position, but at a good height. Like I said, the height is adjustable too- so I'm sure you could find a good position.


This isn't a great picture, and it's old- my seats are currently out of my car while I'm doing my TII Swap. But this gives you an idea i guess.

 

they are fixed back, but as ive found with this and the recaro on the old car, these seats are perfectly comfortable.

 

I went budget with Bomz and regreted it. They were comfortable and very supportive but they were really cheap and creaky.

I fabbed the driver's side mount and bought a passenger mount. If I had to do it over again, I'd just go with FC seats.

 

Johnfoothills, How tall are you? Did the Bomz raise your seating position from the stock seat? What year did you buy your Bomz? Creaky does suck But damn the two tone seats look great!

 

yeah those bomz seats suck, ive seen them break... its just cheap chinese crap.
