i have a buddy of mine who got an fb.. his title says 81 but its an 84-85 model??? im pretty sure the title is wrong...also its got se wheels but the car has a 12a?? (was there an option to get se suspension??) he told me its a gsl and hes positive that its never been messed with before and that it has its original engine so im jst curious if there was an option for se suspension on a gsl or if the se wheels fit the 4x110 somehow????

also how do i decode a vin? so i can know if everything is correct.

 

they could have swapped in gsl se suspension. no there was never an option to have it. you can use google for vin. but iirc 8th character tells year?

Vin breakdown is also listed in the front of the black dragon catalog. It's possible to do a gsl-se swap, and full interior swap.
Do all three vins match? Dash, firewall (drivers side, stamped into the body (no plate)), and drivers door sticker.
Another thing you can check is the front air dam. 84-85 has vents towards the outer edges, 81-83 does not.
Also, I believe 81 and 82 both had a key lock on the gas door, and none on 83 and newer. Where does the engine harness come through the firewall? 81-83 will be on the drivers side, 84-85 is on the passenger side.

is there any easy way to tell if its gsl-se suspension???

 

bolt pattern will be 4x114 with the SE supension as opposed to the 4x110 with the non SE suspension.

 

gsl-se wheels pretty much means it's se suspension, unless the wheels have been re-drilled. se's also have traditional lug nuts as opposed to the standard fb wheel studs. Also the brake rotors are bigger in diameter (10.1 inches in rear as opposed to 9.28 inches for non se), and the se rotors are vented instead of solid.

 

so we checked the vin and its an 81 for sure and all vins match??? but its got the 84-85 dash, so im thinking it got swaped out with modern looks its an 81 that looks like an se.....
