Paint Code Plate
I went looking for the paint code on my GSL-SE and discovered it is missing. My car has been painted a few times and I'm pretty sure one of the paint shops must have removed it some time ago. Is this something that can be reproduced? The car is now and always has been Tornado Silver (my wife calls it "that dookie brown color"). Not sure why it is called Silver? Is there a VIN number on the plate? What other information is there?

The paint code is also on the VIN plate, aft and outboard from the carb on the firewall.
& Tornado Silver (K8) is in no way brown, "dookie" or otherwise. It's a dark metallic grey with a tiny bit of red & yellow in it. See photo below.
I had a spectrum analyzer used once to get some touch-up paint made by FinishMaster - the mix (for my paint in its condition at the time) was:
Jet Black.........267.8 parts
Yellow...............46.7 parts
Crs. Alum........157.4 parts
Red...................29.2 parts
White................24.1 parts

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAAHAAAHAHAAHHAHAHA!!!!
I just about spit my morning coffee onto my computer reading your response DD!
Perhaps Andernamen's Tornado crossed over a muddy cornfield before being deposited onto his car, thus giving it the "dookie" hue.... (sorry, couldn't resist joining in on the fun!)

How about a picture of the plate on the firewall, that is the one that is missing. My original hood is gone too and the replacement came off of an 84 Red GSL-SE. See below for Dookie Brown.

Paint code as it appears on the VIN plate - first chance to get to it with a camera.
Early 79's did not have these, is my understanding.

My car never had the under-the-hood sticker... All other stickers (vacuum route, service data) are there but for whatever reason mine never had the paint sticker.

I can corroborate. My VIN plate sans paint code:

And I'm not sure if it's legal to link to another website, but I have this sheet printed out for reference. I'm sure it's not exact, but it might narrow your search and give you some information to go on:

If they saved a buck on each car, they saved a half-mil easy.
