ooooh, someone up there must hate me
on Christmas day, the little engine that could decides to throw an apex seal.
My only warning was a couple days before, when it would shift roughly because the engine would drop revs rapidly between gears. On the way to my dad's, I start from a light until a little after 4k, shift into 2nd until to almost 5k then it loses almost all power. I thought it was a fuel or carb issue, it wasn't making lawnmower noises or heavy backfires. Turns out the front rotor lost all compression, all three apex seals are gone or damaged.
S4 swap is underway.
For statistics, it had just over 138k miles.

138k is not bad. It was only a few years ago everyone had only 36,000 mile powertrain. Now its all like 70-100k warranty coverage. I had 180k on my 82 gsl when I sold it. It was just starting to smoke more and more.
