Sorry man, but it looks like a writeoff. Unfortunately, they're old, cheap cars (according to NADA, anyway) and they just aren't worth fixing for the insurance company. If you have the opportunity, you can likely buy it back cheap and part it out to recover the cash that they'll likely short you on the value of the car.

That said, let the insuance company have a look first, before you plan for the worst. I needed a rear bumper and taillight to repair my rearended car, and it totaled the car. No body damage, just bumper and taillight. I was able to find a taillight locally to keep the repair cost down and hold on to the car (84 GSL-SE)

Let us know what you hear, and where they put the value of the car. They'll lowball you, and there's always some negotiation room.

They will total it. Just buy back the car and fix it, the car looks fixable.

I put a brand new battery and the two rear tires have less than 60 KM on them...I am 16 so I wouldn't be able to fix it but I guess I could part it

Why couldn't you fix it just because you are 16?

That's the perfect age to be acquiring the needed skills, if you don't have them already.

if thats not your only car i wouldnt have been driving it in the snow....people drive like morons when it snows. at any rate, its repairable in my book. you need to remove the left fender. header panel, hood, and light bucket and see what damage was done underneath to the unit body.

I agree. I never drive in the snow. Sorry, I couldn't resist. These pictures show the weather at my house.

This is what I've been working on this week. A friend was driving in the rain and 2 trees jumped in front of him and made him spin.

You can see the donor car, he traded me back for this one, waiting in the background.

After surgical use of several different sized sledge hammers, pry bars, the F250 and a couple tow straps....

A little more tweaking and a few self taping bolts to hold the header panel in its proper place and you'd never know, unless you look under the hood. While it looks ok from the outside, is has significant damage to the right front supports and the right end of the tube across the front. To do a proper job much cutting and welding would be required. It bent the tension rod mount a little, but it drives fine and seems to track straight. We'll see. I'm putting in a new radiator sometime in the next couple of days and then he'll start driving it again.

The black donor car has been in the family for many years.
http://intertron.com/ron/84.html
I bought it in 95 for $350 with blown coolant seals. Swapped in a motor, SE suspension, rear end, PW, and anything else I could think of from the SE parts car I had. Repainted it in the garage. I drove it for 2 years. Sold it to my brother and he drove it for 3 years. He sold it to this car's owner and he drove it for several years. He hit a dog and messed up the front end. It was worse for the, apparently, very large dog That's how it got the silver bumper and header (from an 83 LE). I got the silver GSLSE from a classified here. I removed the non running S4 engine and got it running with an SE engine. When I sold it to him, I took the black one back in partial trade. The black one has too many rust issues in key places (under the battery) for me, so its finally a parts car (1 of 4).

Looks can be deceiving. Something to keep in mind when looking at a car to buy. I'll post some horror pics of the nasty unseen damage.

Its my only car so am out mt only car if they write it off (haven't been told yet). They reason I can't fix it is becuase we have no room at our house. So fixing isn't an option, and with 4 weeks left of this semester I can't part it out in class (also becuase a van is on the two post lift).

Anyway, I was wondering what you guys thinks its worth, It had two small spots of rust, maybe 1/8" wide and 1-1/2" long. The driver seat had a small tear on it and there were two brand new tires on the back with less than 60KM on them. The front tires have less than 15000KM on them and I have two other tires the same in my basement. If they do sell it would I be able to keep the tires from it? I can sell those at least and get like $350-400 from them

If one has a donor or even a front clip from a junkyard and a welder, you can fix that. I picked my 85 up from a salvage yard with a parts 85 GSL and did a front end swap over one winter, then took it to a rack and had it pulled.

The rack was really the only cost (other then buying it) and that was $500, didn't even have to buy any parts since I had the parts car. So I ended up with a GS that has oil cooler mounts :P
