--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Ok fellow 1st gen members, I went to bat for you and now it is a reality. WOOT!
Welcome all to our new relaxed, "Casual Section".
Lets make this a friendly and respectful place for us 1st genners to come and relax.
The rules and guidlines listed will be a work in progress.
The same current rules of the forum that are in the attached link apply to this section with some listed inclusions.
https://www.rx7club.com/faq.php?faq=r...ection_ rules
1)No classified ads in this section. This includes WTB/WTS/WTT/, etc........
1A) No solicitations of any sort are allowed in this section. That includes all members.
2)This is not the lounge. What is acceptable behavior in the lounge Will Not be Tolerated in this section at anytime!
That means no bashing, flaming, trolling to incite a flame war. These type of actions will not be tolerated in this section and will be dealt with accordingly.
My fellow 1st gen Moderators. Please feel free to add to this as you feel necessary.
We will be moving threads from the 1st gen specific section to here and will be starting a sticky as to that effect. It will also list examples of threads that should be in this section instead of the main technical section.

I like it the way they've set it up. It's not the drivel you get in the lounge, but it's not necessarily "car" stuff. It's a place for those of us that have been around for a while and gotten to know each other a little bit to discuss various topics other than technical car stuff. We've gotten to know who knows their stuff and who doesn't so it's good to be able to discuss other stuff here. And it's a good place to move those annoying "what's the funnest thing you've done in your RX-7" threads.

I am all for a first gen Causal over a Non-technical. I mean how do you know what is non technical? I had a thread in this section about the Auto Parts Warehouse discount codes that I will update every month... It pertained to first gens and yet it was moved to the first gen PARTS FOR SALE?
I was not selling parts, and if someone moved it because I was selling parts from the manufacturer (APW), wouldn't I need to have a vendor status? Sometimes this site gets a little screwey.

alright alright, I'll open it again.
The main thought behind the 1st gen "Casual" section was that we didn't want to completely remove all non-tech-related threads from the 1st gen section. It was one of the places on the forum where I felt there was a real sense of community because of the fact that we talk alot about other things pertaining to our lives and our projects other than technical questions.
But the question is how far do you go and where do you draw the line? We didn't want the 1st gen "Casual" section to become another postwhoring mini-lounge, but at the same time we didn't want to be too restrictive. We changed the name to 1st Gen Non-Technical because that would allow threads about things like "How fast have you gone" and "Check out my new project car", "Yay, I've got a garage now", "Where do you store your 7" and all sorts of threads making fun of ricers, but would eliminate threads like "My new iPod r0x0rz!!1!"
I nailed that specific thread because at first when I saw the title I was like "WTF? Spammer?" Then saw that it wasn't a spammer, but it was a thread that was completely unrelated to anything. I found myself thinking "Okay... so why's this here?". I could understand someone talking about moving into their new house, because like I said I hate being a bastard about deleting stuff and I want it to feel like a community... but the thread was way out in left field and so I closed it.
The next question you're going to ask is "well there are a LOT of off topic threads in the nontech section, why nuke only that one". The answer is because it caught my eye and I didn't have time to spend reading every thread. I was just hopping on to look up a part number from work (where I've already been told NOT to be on the forum or it could be very unfortunate for me) so I could call the local Mazda Dealership and order it, and that was the thread at the top.
Bottom line is that it's just as hard to figure out sometimes from this side of the fence as it is from that side. I don't think anybody wants a crazy, unreadable lounge section that requires constant moderation just to keep everybody from getting into flamewars and shouting matches, but I also think we deserve to talk a little more about ourselves and our passion for cars without having to limit ourselves to questions about how to fix/upgrade/replace something.
Just try in some way to relate it to your first gen, rotaries, cars, autocross, motorsports, or even your life.. where it pertains to stuff that would be applicable and interesting to most of us and hopefully car related in some distant way.

I think that's it exactly. Or at least that's what we're aiming for.
At the very least, it helps keep the regular 1st Gen forum on-topic, which will make it a hell of a lot easier to search in the long run.

Sure, that works. Or if it has a garage that would make an awesome workshop for your 7. Or how you're going to try and keep the spare parts off the lawn unlike the neighbors, whatever.
Just give it something that makes it somehow relevant, lol.Jon
