Need help with an article

Hi,

I'm a freelance writer, and I am proposing an article to a national magazine for the 30th anniversary of the RX-7 (according to model year, I know 2008 is the 30th anniversary of the car landing on our shores).

I owned several First gens, although I have been RX-7-less for a few years now.

The article I'm proposing would be an overview and test of the three iterations of the first gen (SA, FB, FB GSL-SE)

What I need is an example of each car (preferably a 78, 81-83 and an 84-85) in excellent original condition...wheels, body, interior and all. Preferably within a reasonable drive of my home in Winnipeg Canada (although I would be willing to go further if there were more than one car I want in close proximity to one another), and close to some pretty nice driving roads.

I would need a few hours with each car to get a driving impression, and for photographs.

If you're interested, leave a message on this thread.

Please note that this is only so I can get an idea as to whether or not I can get my hands on the cars I would need for the article, so I can approach the editor with confidence, knowing I can deliver what I promise.

cheers

Leif

Leif - can't help with the drives , much as I'd LOVE to have my 80 RX7 featured in a mag article - but living in Alaska (tho Calgarian by birth) kind of takes me out of the mainstream! Am a photographer by trade, so can help with SA photos and have a pretty complete collection of world market literature, factory brochures etc if I an assist with SA details. Maybe an approach might be to drive an SA and -SE so you are seeing kind of the "bookend" perspective of the first and last 1st gen RX7s.

best of luck with project - glad to see someone honoring 30th anniversary - surprised it wasn't more widely celebrated!?

My email if I can assist further-

A worthwhile pursuit Leif. Stu's collection is likely one of the best references in the world to draw upon.

The interest is out there and your timing is right. Wanted to share that while showing my Rx-7s at a recent concours event the West Coast Associate Editor of Hemmings Motor News presented similar interest in an anniversary feature and has since gained approval from his East Coast editor in chief to proceed. The article intends to include a comparison with a concours winning '83 Datsun 280ZX.
