Got my coilovers in early this week from ReSpeed. Great product and the packaging was amazing (I have done a lot of ebay buying).
Anyways, I ordered the race front kit with 425 springs, and the standard rear with 200 springs. Looking back, I might as well just ordered 450 springs. The rear springs I literally removed and installed the coilovers by hand. No tools beside the jack stands and jack. I had stock springs on the rear and these were a major upgrade!
I got the fronts done today. Took it to my friends place since he has a welder to use. You cut off the old spring perch and weld on a new one. The instructions say to weld it at about 6" from the top and that would give you moderate lowering (having the springs set halfway on the coilover). I couldn't go the full 6 inches (
) and ended up doing 5 and some change, the brake line bracket was in the way! Either way, I got them on and they are about 3/4 the way down, and dropped it considerably.
Now, you guys are probably wondering why I got the 425s and not something in the 200s. Well, my front springs were ST springs, dropped the car an inch. When I went to the 425s, it felt just a TINY bit stiffer. No real bounce, and it isn't as HARDCORE RACER ONLY stiff as people make it out to be. I actually got to leave my extra back bone at home! Going through the turns and it handled amazingly, but the biggest boost was the confidence factor. Before, with the ST springs and stockies on the back, handling was so-so and it felt like it would teeter totter on the edge of adhesion; now with the coilovers it just stays planted!
All in all, money well spent. Do not fear higher spring rates, it only gets better
Picture is of the coilover ready to go on. I do not have pictures of the car just yet, it is midnight here now.

I wonder who this welder friend is?
Just remeber guys, if you decide to tackle this project yourself make sure you have a compitant welder to install your new spring perches.

Hey Billy, you don't happen to sell just the spring perch do you? I was looking around for an 84-85 big bearing and may have found one.
Seems like that is the only way to do the BB kit

good work. I run 300/200. Wish I would have gone with 450/300. 300/200 really is such a nice ride. rides much more like a modern sports car as opposed to a cadilac, but I race my car a lot, so I should have gone stiffer.
Other than most shocks cant take more than 350 before you wear them out. I stayed right at the edge with 350 after alot of advise from Billy, and I have the adjustable illuminas (spelled wrong)

Actually that is how you spell Illumina. <-- see.
You can use a piece of pipe that has the same I.D (or just a hair larger) as the struts O.D. Weld it on and the threaded collar will sit ever so nicely on top.
Also why didn't you guys just weld the brake line bracket a little lower? You had the strut tube there anyway. A little extra securtiy, just incase.

Billy has a special on the complete race-version coilover kit if any of you are currently looking at going with this setup.
