My new car (non-rotary)
Now that the wife isn't doing daycare anymore, we no longer had need of the minivan. So, picked something up for me to drive to work while the wife drives the bimmer.
Wanted something fairly sporty (obviously), a bit of luxury (I am over 40, afterall), and all wheel drive for these damned Michigan winters.
Did all my research into reliability ratings, dependability, etc., checked out retail values, resale values, put all the information together into a perfectly logical plan. Then, we threw that straight out the damned window and bought another damned Audi.
I don't know what to say. Our last one (a 92) practically broke the bank. But it was still one of the nicest driving vehicles we'd ever owned.
And reading up on the new model we bought (a '05 Allroad), owners all say that it cost them an arm and a leg through maintenance, but that they also wouldn't drive anything else. Weird, I know. But having experienced this feeling first hand, yeah, it's still weird.
Anyway, here's a link to the website about the car we purchased with pictures and description. http://value1auto.net/newandusedcars...adquattro.aspx
We picked it up Friday morning, and spent the whole day cruising along the lakeshore in a whiteout, just marvelling over the traction and stability and secure feeling of the car. What a damned tank! Just like my last one, and we love it. But I'm already cringing, expecting those repair bills any minute now. lol...
Wish us luck....

A great choice for our winters and you may get more snow than I do here in Toronto. I too have an 04 Allroad and its the best car Ive ever owned. Unfortunately things like leaking suspension air bags will be expensive to fix but the car really is a panzerkampfwagen, weighs like one, drink gas like one but is allso as unstoppable as one. I had my software tuned by APR to increase boost limit and it produces 310 bhp without any side issues. Too bad Audi felt it needed an SUV and stopped bringing the Allroad here, can you imagine the RS6 Allroad!

Nice audi Kentetsu, and there not to bad one of the easier audis to work on if you have the bits for the reverse star drive bolts audi/vw use. Dont resurface the rotors its a waste of money, there designed to be replaced when the pads go out, if you resurface theyll be warped in a week. And yeah like stated above the air shocks in those are crazy money other than that just keep up with the little things that go cause theyll make bigger more expensive parts fail. They really are great rides tho, just a biotch to work on, used to work for vw/audi so had to work on these alot. At least you didnt get the toureg that things an overpriced turd.

Good luck with the Audi. You will be fine if you can do some of the service work yourself. The dealers are mega expensive for maintenance.

That's actually cheaper than what the car would bring in my area.

Good luck with Audi. I'll just stick with my 'ol Jeep Cherokee.

Nice! I would have gone with a b5 S4. They are cheaper than the 05 Allroad's and they don't have much that go wrong. At 100,000 you pull the motor and replace the two turbos, water pump, timing belt, ect. Then you're good. You can upgrade to the k04 turbos for a little more cash and be at 400ish hp . I still like the allroad too though!

BTW, anybody got a Carfax account? Wouldn't mind running this vin through to see what comes up (maybe timing belt replacement? That would be nice)...

One owner, no *reported* work done to it. No accidents, clean title.
There are some things I dont understand though. The independent source where it was shipped on 1/3/06 to the dealer yet it already had 5000 miles on 7/8/05
I also dont understand the rollback mileage on 12/6/10 to 12/9/10 to 12/22/10

Congrats on the new to you car!
I used to like Audi's until they changed to the current A4's styling which I'm not a fan of. Would still love to own an RS6 some day but they are still too much money used.

Sorry, no pics yet. Just working too much lately to get anything non-work related done. However, I think I'm going to take her racing in a couple of weeks. The local club is holding autocross races on a frozen lake. I'll grab some photos then for sure...

good luck with the audi , two of my friends had them the damn car bled them dry. they were both audi a4's one of the dumest things that one of the cars did was leak "oil" out of the outside mirrors. they were auto diming if I remember. needless to say they tell people to run not walk way from audi's

That's what's so funny! I used to have a '92 Audi which also bled us dry. Damned thing hardly ever ran right, but when it did it was more than enough to make us fall in love with it. When I finally sold it (at a loss of a few thousand dollars), I swore that I'd never own another one.
My wife basically forced me to take this one for a test drive, and of course once I had it on the road I was in love all over again. Just so damned solid, smooth, quiet, comfortable, and POWERFUL!
I guess it's like dating a mega-hot chick who just loves sex. You know she's not going to be faithful, but all the rest of it is so great that you almost don't even care. Once you're riding her, you're in love all over again.
But, hopefully I got lucky with this one. Only one owner, and he sold it just after it rolled over 100k. So, maybe he bought the extended warranty that goes to 100k, which would mean full dealership care up to the point when I bought the car. All I know is, so far, so good. But in the mean time, I'm living in their forum learning all about how to care for and fix it. Hope for the best, but plan for the worst, right?

My parents had an Allroad that I think was a year or two older. The only problem they had with it was it would always pull to the right and adjusting things would never fix it. Audi ended up buying it back from them in the end. The only company that ever acually bought a car back for what they had into it. Other than the pulling thing it never had any problems at all. I guess the pulling thing was real rare on the allroads and they just ended up with one.
