SC My new 7

Hey guys, new to the rotary world and the RX-7. I picked up this '85 GS here in South Carolina from the 2nd owner for a whopping $1000. Interior is original, paint is original, and has 155K miles on it. Car runs perfect, and I have receipts for EVERYTHING ever done to this car, even the very first oil change. I have wanted one of these forever, and found this one in a friend of mine's neighbor's back yard under a cover. He drove it for a month as a DD, but brakes went out. I fixed brakes(I am somewhat of a mechanic), and here she sits.

I did the stripe myself(I like it), did a RB header and power pulse muffler, and have left the rest alone. Don't want a race car, but the exhaust was horribly leaky. I want to leave this car as much stock as I can, as it has a great story and runs like a dream.

Well, here's some pics, what do yall think?

You scored! That's a fine looking Rx-7. I too like the unique off-center black stripe you added. Welcome to the forum. Thanks for sharing pics.

What color is the interior?

yeah, I have never seen a stripe like mine, and I got tired of people asking if it was a 240, so the RX7 had to be there.

Thanks for the welcome, hope you all don't get tired of me asking questions.

Today I found a guy around town that road races a 1st gen, has 4 of them behind his shop. I stopped by and got word that he will sell me a complete GSL with no motor for $400.

I want the rear end and the front hubs, so I am buying this car nexst week.

Anyways, thanks for the welcome!!

Clean car my friend! That was truly a rare find.

What are you doing with the body then? Are you just using the rear end?

Yeah, I am on a big budget this summer, my Dad and I are shutting down the shop, so I am on a job hunt. But the good thing is, the body is shot, so I can steal all good parts and take to scrap yard.

I know I know, I am not supposed to scrap it, but the body is rusted out, no good panels, maybe a good seat and instrument cluster, maybe door panels, stuff like that but body is shot.

I have space to keep the body for now, so I can deal with that, problem is I have to get it before I am outta the shop to do the swap and swap my new tires on the new wheels and so on.

Mickster, interior is burgundy and pretty much perfect, except cracked instrument cluster and both door panels have holes in the very top part where your arm rests(mine anyways) while driving. But I have a guy owes me a favor.

Thanks for the compliments, I know I have the bug, I have already put $1000 in a $1000 car and that is CRAZY! Good thing is I have had people offer me $4K for it as it is, so what the hell.... But I will NEVER sell her

Well, picked up the GSL, she is trashed for sure. Other than rear end and front hubs it seems ithat this car is nothing more than scrap!!

Got 1 seat, spare tire, front hubs, rear end, and wheels and tires, rest is going to scrap yard tomorrow. Anybody need rusted out body parts?

Well, I haven't gotten it yet, will be next week, but all I need from the car is the passenger tail lens, real suspension and axle and the front suspenson/hubs.

Everything else will be for sale, so stay tuned. I am not big on shipping stuff, but we'll figure it out. The car is complete minus the engine.

And yes, I would rather piece the car out to you guys than scrap it for 200 bucks, so stay tuned.

Good purchase. I'm not sure if I like the stripe or not, but it is definitely unique. It looks a lot better than some of the other things I've seen done to FB's as well, by far.

I also think it is pretty cool that you want to keep it close to stock. That is pretty awesome.

Picking the new GSL up on Wednesday of next week, so parts will be up for grabs. Will keep you all posted. I hope, anyways. I picked the one up a while ago, and posted that I had it, only to have the guy call me and tell me he gave me the wrong car. He came and got it and the other one is in better shape so....we'll see.
