My first seven

hey everybody, i am brand new to this forum.

ok, the other day my buddy at work said he was gettin rid of his rx7, so i kept askin him how much he wanted for it. and he kept sayin "make me an offer." so i made him the offer of $200 and he said "ok, sure" so the next night we went up and looked at it, and i liked it, so i said i'd buy it from him.

anyways, about the car.

it is an 83 gsl 5-speed, silver outside, red inside. the only thing it should need is a u joint on the tranny side of the driveshaft, and then she'll hopefully ride. then i have to work on putting it all back together, because he was gonna redo it. it has very minor rust issues, and an easy to fix dent. it is complete, but apart, so i will have to put it back together. i plan on driving it this summer.

i will get pics up as soon as i get it to my house, which should be sometime next week.

i am sooo excited to get to work on it.

anyways, thanks for reading all this.

Welcome to the forum. Sounds like a great price. Post up some pics when you get the chance. We have a couple other members in the Grand Rapids area (Kentetsu is one of them).

wow excellent price!

If you are new to rotaries make sure you look through some of the info in the FAQ's and get familiar with all the quirks and don't of the rotary!

the guy i bought it from says it runs, but he says you have to babysit it for a while to get it to idle good. yeah, it runs, but it don't drive. it needs a u-joint on the tranny side of the shaft, so that will be my first order of business.

$200 bucks sounds like a good deal as long as the car isnt rusted in half, but you`ll love it, oh and dont let that red line buzzer stop you. you`ll learn to laugh at it.

thought i was gettin it today, but it turns out, it never showed up. i'll talk to the guy tomorrow. anyways, it's supposed to rain tomorrow and the beginning of next week, and because of the lack of windows in the car right now, it can't be transported. this kinda sucks for me, if ya know what i mean.

oh sweet your from GR thats where i race during the summer, you should come with us, theres a bunch of us, and together we get a bit of work done.

i can understand how anxious you are. so exactly how torn apart is the car? it sounds like it may be a bit of work. do you have any experience?

anyway, welcome to the forum. and if you have any questions, do a search and if its still unclear, or you can go ahead and post a thread asking about it, or feel free to pm somebody. id be happy to help you if at all possible.out, it never showed up. i'll talk to the guy tomorrow. anyways, it's supposed to rain tomorrow and the beginning of next week, and because of the lack of windows in the car right now, it can't be transported. this kinda sucks for me, if ya know what i mean.

and in regards to this, it is true that a rotary can and will continue to rev it doesnt mean it will make more power, and it is also not exactly good for it.

as far as how torn apart it is, basically, the interior from the front carpet back is out of it, and the hatch is out, and so is the driver's quarter window, the tail lights and the rear bumper are off also. other than that and the driveshaft, it's together.

UPDATE:

after charging the battery for a while, i tried to crank the car. it clicked, but nothing more. i also noticed that not everything inside the car was working, so i unhooked the charger. tried to crank it again, absolutely nothing happened. the battery was toast. i went down to my dad's shop, got a new battery, and we were good to go. so i crank the car, it cranks. then i let go of the key, and it stays cranking. my dad's like "go unhook the battery quick!" so i did. then, i held the neg cable on as he cranked it, and huge arcs started coming out of the starter.

so i pulled the starter off, tested it, it went kinda slow. i took it apart, cleaned it, tested it again, and it worked good. but one thing i noticed when taking it apart, was that a wire came apart that was on the terminal for the starter motor, and i don't know what it goes to. it was blue with a white tracer if that means anything. anyways, i put the starter back on, and it just clicked and arced again, so now i guess i'll have to get a new starter.

is there any other ideas of what could be happening here, or why it is arcing and sparking?

sorry for the super long post, and thanks for any info.

OK, update time again, i don;t know if anyone is following this, but i don't care.
it turns out i am retarded, at this time you may now call me retarded in advance.

i was cleaning the starter connections, because i had a big voltage drop. when i was cleaning the BAT one on the starter, i noticed that i forgot to tighten the nut all the way (durrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr).
it cranked fine, and now it runs.

ITS ALIVE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!11
