My first Restoration....How did I do?

This is my friend's 79 SA that he bought about 2 years ago from this guy that let it sit for about 13 years. The car was complete but surface rust and signs of sitting outside were obvious. We got the car running and he drove it for about six months but dowel pin oil leaks and smoke made it impossible to drive.

I offer him the motor off my SA and a complete tear down paint job and pretty much a restoration.Everything was tore down and cleaned and then painted.

Well, let the pictures do tha talk!

Not a huge fan of white SAs but I gotta say this would make me a convert! Beautiful job. Nice details like the pin stripe - looks pro all the way. Thanks for bringing another SA back from the Brink!! - sharing-

Thank you for the complements guys! Stu, this was a lot of work but worth it at the end! The reason I volunteer to help fix the car was because of the hard to come by79 model in good shape.

By the way can anybody indemnify the muffler? It says CSC and made in Italy, maybe an old RB?

very nice resto! lovin the fresh interior with an uncracked dash especially rare since most of the 79 dashes have cracks around the speaker holes

looks great and a very excellent job at the restoration!!! two things i will say that i would not have done are the red air cleaner. a stock oem blue would have looked great and would really have made the engine bay imo. and i would not have added the gauge pod because the gauges imo are really not needed. with that said all of the work seemed to be top notch and very well done. you should be proud of the restoration.

I'm the one that works on his cars so yea I do keep an eye on him.

I did explain to him the special needs of a rotary engine so hopefully he'll follow my instructions if not I have a good repo-man.

I do agree with you 100% on the air cleaner, we do have the blue cover from his motor but the reason I used the red one (from my car) is because it's functional with a 380 degree opening and K&N filter. I think that a RB air cleaner will look really good.
Now on the gauges 79 has no oil pressure gauge from the factory so the need for a gauge in my book is mandatory.

good call. i agree with you on this. if i were building one, i'd do the same thing simply because i wouldn't be building it to show it and win awards. however, i suppose there may be some people that would build for show and i respect that as well.
