my 7

Every day i wake up glad to see and hear the cold start of my first gen Rx7. My neighbors hate it, my mom doesn't know what a rotary engine is (she thought it was the first hybrids haha lol), no one is this damn Mormon infested state we call Utah knows how to work on rotary engines, racers think its just the same old classic, and real wheel drive is really not a very good idea in Utah snow season. So I have to wait till the summer to pop the top and show Salt Lake City what three moving parts can do.
Every time i drive or even start my car, the first thing that comes to mind is history. My car has some of the best history and evolution influence on cars out there. My power to weight, my exhaust note, my perfect fit in this spot i call the cockpit, that has the most amazingly perfect length from arm to shift *** and outstanding transmission shifting performance that I've felt in any car I ever been in, just makes me feel like HotWheels is engraved on the bottom of it. If u 1st gen owners agree with me on this one say "I"! And for those who don't have one or never driven one, come to Utah and ill let u take it through the canyons!

Today I declare the Mazda Rx7, the most amazing and ultimate driving experience.

rx7: A+++++

The only line of cars that I think did a better job as far as driver "fit" was the Datsun Z. The interior of the 7 feels a little more flimsy or "plastic" than they do. But of course, the Z cars lack the rotary, so enough said.

Don't forget that the Z cars also cost more than the RX-7. I can't remember the exact numbers, but a 79 RX-7 was right around $9500, whereas the same year Datsun 280Z cost about 13-14 grand.

I was showing my newly purchased Rx-7 to a buddy of mine at the fire department, I told him that I actually enjoyed driving my GSL-SE more than the 2004 BMW M3 I just sold. It's no lie, I really think the car is that much fun, and I don't even have new brakes or suspension on it, the car still has it's 23 year old bits on it. I equate it to the fun factor at lower speeds, to break a sweat in the M3 you had to push it well beyond the law and my own comfort zone, but with the Rx-7 even lower speed curves and tight roads are fun. So I do agree with the OP, the Rx-7 is one of the best cars made, I can't imagine the impression they made on people when first released in the early 80's, unfortunately I was only 2 years old when the first one came to the US!

i hate the feeling in bmw's how u cant feel the road much. I love in the 7 how u feel everything, every push on the pedal is exciting.

i would like to add that my car is fully stock in top condition with a few minor tweaks. i switched all lights including the speedometer, gas, volt....etc, to LED lights.

Let me clarify by saying that I still believe that BMWs, especially the M3 are perhaps the best handling mass produced car that money can buy. The Rx-7 is just raw fun, no frills I guess sums it up. It all comes down to its weight. People think it's great they're getting 300+ HP cars these that they'll be rewarding to drive. What they don't realize is that most cars are pushing 3500-4000 lbs now. With that kind of weight straight line speed is still OK, but handling and quick flicks of the steering are very unrewarding due to the amount of mass changing direction.

I completely agree!

The only other car that felt exciting to drive was my Dad's old 2004 CLK55 AMG, that thing had a softer suspension compared to the RX7, but that V8 really gave you a great response and feel!

But, back to the RX7, I can honestly say that I prefer to drive my car than any others... one of the problems I have with these newer cars is how disconnected you feel from the road! I feel like I will flip or roll or skid out in these soft rides because of how much the body "leans" compared to my RX7 (course that's also cuz I always drive it ) I would like more throttle response out of the 12A (Though I recently opened a can of WhoopAss on a 05 Silverado that cut me off and tried to race meh! +1 for the 7's handling and ability to manevuer in traffic!) Other than that and the fun bumps you get when that solid rear axle goes over a speedbump I have very few complaints in driving!

"I" I have had my 83 FB for 13 years...I had to put her aside in lieu of a family vehicle years ago...it was fix her, or have another baby...well....I have 2 boys now...LOL Now that I got my baby back on the road both of my boys have put in to have her at 16...(had to get a couple more cuz they have a cousin who put in for one, too) She still needs a few things like a front end alignment and tires (income tax refund....yeah!!) but I can't wait to DD her again!! My most favorite car that I have EVER owned!!!!!! I have flipped safer cars but would rather drive my FB!!

I!!! I had an FC as a DD last summer and that **** got boring! Yeah all the fancy luxuries were nice but I just didn't feel the same "connectivity" that I do with the 1st Gens. So I got my second 1st Gen. This time an SA. I enjoy driving it everytime I do, even if it is just to work and home. I drove my FB from MD to Idaho and had a blast. I'll agree there is no substitute for the 1st Gen RX-7!!

Also I would like to see pictures of the LED dash lights. The SA's lights are dim as hell and I wonder if the LED's are worth it
