Michigan 2 day Meet/Autocross
Hey guys,
Since I know that most of you guys don't visit the regional forums, I thought I'd pass the word along on this...
We've got a two day autocross event on May 16/17 this spring, so lets combine this with a meet and have a good time. This event is perfect for those of you who have always wanted to check out autocross and get your feet wet. The sponsors of this event http://furrin.org/ always put on a good show, and the atmosphere is laid back and aimed at being a fun time.
We can work out overnight accomodations based on how many people will be coming from out of town. If only a few, then I've got a 1 acre back yard we can use for camping. If the response is better than that, then I'll investigate camping in the area of the race. This event is about 15 minutes from my house.
Below are the event details. If you can make it, post up and let me know. Please specify if you will be looking for a place to crash (er, I mean stay overnight).
The Furrin Group has verified two of our premier autocross events of
the 2009 season. On May 16 & 17, we will open our season at West
Michigan Auto Auction in Moline. These will be two separate events.
On the 17th, we will be coordinating the event with the Ford Contour/SVT
club event. Cost for Saturday is $15 FG member, $20 non-member. Cost
for Sunday is $15 FG or Ford Contour/SVT member, $20 non-member. If
you run both days, there will be a $5 discount for the second day. Each
day will offer the $10 Vintage class; any vehicle older than 1980.
We usually fill up, so I would recommend registering as early as possible. The only thing you need besides a car that will pass tech inspection (decent tires, battery secured, ball joints and brakes in good shape) is a helmet. And they do have loaner helmets available, so if you don't have one don't let that stop you.
Okay, the registration is now open:

I may be interested in this. Have to check out my work schedule after DGRR, so I won't know for sure til afterwards. WOSCA is dragging their feet getting our schedule up. Shouldn't be a problem to get the weekend off.

There are also some great 3 day events that take place in July/August.
Friday is an all day test and tune, with as many runs as you like (I got too tired to drive after about 40 runs).
Saturday is a morning autocross, followed by an afternoon autocross (different course).
Sunday is a Solo I event. If you haven't tried one of these, you really should. Its just like a Solo II event (regular autocross) but the speeds are much higher. Instead of topping out in 2nd gear, you'll be redlining 3rd gear in some high speed sweepers and such. Its a real blast.
I'll keep you informed on these as they get closer. They are held in Oscoda Michigan, so it would be about the same distance for you as coming to Grand Rapids.

WOW...I am building my rex to be legal for Solo1. Wish they had that down here in Texas. They claim insurance....blah blah blah or some spray!!!
You may laugh Kentetsu, but the project "cheap autocrosser" may even see some offroad rally action as well..... Hence the rollbar!!!

Hell, I won't laugh at that! I got my feet wet back in the 80s chasing my mentor down snowmobile trails at 3am during the summertime. By shear chance, we had matching 1980 Datsun 310 hatchbacks. 1.4 liters producing 70 hp, but when you're going to beat hell down a snowmobile trail, trees flashing past the side mirrors with millimeters to spare, jumps that "clean the gas tank off", and actively dodging deer, it seems like a whole lot more.
One night I ended up ripping the rear A arm off and had to throw my rear wheel in the back and drive the rest of the night on 3 wheels. That was different.

Registration is nearly full, and this is how CSP is shaping up. So far we've got 5 RX7s and 3 Miatas.
Since I haven't replaced my race rubber yet, this could prove pretty tough. I know that at least one (probably two) of the Miatas run on race rubber, so I'll have to face them on my $45.00 Sumitomos. Is this starting to sound like fun to anyone else?
There are also going to be several Porsches, including some turbo 911s (different class). So if I want to maintain my bragging rights of not having been beaten by a Porsche in over 2 years, I'm damn well going to have to work at it this time. lol.
For those of you coming from out of town, PM me if you would like to stay at my place (which you will be more than welcom to do). We'll probably turn it into a bonfire party type atmosphere Friday and Saturday nights....

Just a couple more days! Looks like they've extended the field to 100 entries, so its not too late to sign up. So far rotaries make up over 10% of the field...

Are you bringing race rubber?
Just so long as a rotary stomps those Miatas I'll be happy. One of our forum members will actually be driving one of the Miatas, but I won't say who because I don't want to embarass him. lol

If you're referring to me, I'm only running in the miata because my car isn't ready. It's not really a CSP car. We're only running CSP because there was nobody in CS to run against. I have only been home a couple of days and even if it were running, I wouldn't have enough time to break in the rebuilt motor.

Whitey, sorry to hear that you won't make this event...
