Labor Day Autocross Michigan

Great place for an autocross, at Grattan Raceway in Belding Michigan. One of the most beautiful courses I've seen. Lots of elevation changes and other cool stuff.

If you ever wanted to take your car to a nice track without the worries of bashing it up, this is the event you want.

Nice! I was waiting for you to post this as I knew you were doing something.

In Philly, autocrossing sucks as 1,000,000 people show up and they let crying kid run with some of the slowest carts that I have ever seen. The kids knock over all the cones and then drive around in circles. The one time that I went here was a very long, hot day with minimal driving time.

The one I went to in Michigan was much more fun with a nice small field. I think we were finished by lunch. What a great way to test drive a car! Anyway, I'll be a Pocono Motor Speedway this weekend. If you get a chance to do an HPDE event, take it as you will love it!

Have fun, the "Nemesis" is on your tail!

Good Luck!

Thanks man. This is probably my favorite venue, and I faced Nemesis there in her old form back on '06. Unfortunately, some newby in a prelude somehow managed to loose it on the short straight right before the finish, run right up the hillside all the way to the concrete barrier and totalled his car. An amazing effort on his part!

That was the last time they let us run there, so I'm very happy to have this event back on the calendar.

And yeah, we do encourage new people to come out to most of our events, and sometimes we get some real patience testers. Those guys get mandatory passengers to offer "guidance", and if they don't shape up they are discreetly taken out back and shot. Not the best, but not the worste either. We do okay.

I would really love to do HPDEs and such, but the cost factor is just too much of an issue. Maybe after the kids are out of the house it will be an option for me, but certainly not right now. Even if I got a chance to do it by some financial miracle, I don't think I would simply because autocross would never be the same for me afterwards. I can only afford the small joys right now, so that's what I'll stick with.

In the mean time, I'll just have to live vicariously through you! lol

Always some idiot who has to ruin it for everyone...

As far as cost goes, you can go out there for a classroom session and 20 minutes hot lapping for $50. As far as ruining autocrossing for you, that is another matter.

Good luck, go pass those Miatas!

Good news is, I won.

Bad news is, a drunk pulled a pit maneuver on me on the freeway while I was on the way home, and fed me under the wheels of an SUV, which then flipped and rolled on the freeway. Then I was hit again by a big buick. And the drunk drove away.

Good news is, I'm alive and well. And hopefully, the car can be repaired. 3 out of 4 corners were hit, but the frame and suspension seem to be in good shape. I'll know more once I can get the hood open.

More details later. I'm trying to forget about it all right now so I can get some sleep. Oh, and OUCH.

Wow, my 9,200th post is an announcement that my car might be totalled. How's that for irony?

WOW, that sucks!! Luckily you are OK. That also sucks that it was a drunk that did this!! I don't mind drinking, but not behind the wheel!
