Didn't the super early cars from 1978 not have the Map holders on the side panels?
Did the Spark Yellows have a maroon interior? From the Sparks I've seen they've had that weird yellow matching interior.
But yeah I'd buy that now if I had room.

early yes no map pockets, have seen black interior in car purchased from original owner and had a passenger side mirror but there is a receipt from when the car was brought in to the delaership and it was added after original purchase ... oh the one mentioned is choopacabra's car was at my place up till a couple of weeks ago and it's a 3/78 my 4/78 also no map pockets in doors but also no passenger mirror like 7up "never had it, never will" lol

would be nice if there was a better picture of the dash to see if it had the speaker opening above the glove box, button to shut off the a/c in the fan switch

I don't think that was maroon originally; looks like the brown/tan interior that you can see in a number of early SA's. Affectionately known as "baby-s#!t brown."

I had the same thing happen a few weeks ago. Spark yellow SA showed up, then was gone. Only knew about it through my father in law, who saw it and told me about it. By the time I searched for it, it had sold already. I would have liked to at least see it. Nice to see another firefox user, with XP as well. Awesome combo!

Thats an interesting car, too bad I can't see any other pics anymore. I think some of the "early" 79 characteristic traits may have lasted longer than some people think. I see everyone quoting real early cars from March, April and May as having no passenger side mirror or map pockets. Well my 79 was built 8/78 and it doesn't have either of these items and even has the speaker grill above the glove box.

There is a Very clean low mileage red 80 in Greensboro NC craigslist... I went to look at it in person and it looks GREAT I think the owner would let it go for somewhere around 3-3,500 but not 100% sure. As cool as it is I just dont need anoother car right now... lol

I didn't see the ad but something is amiss if it had a maroon interior. Either the interior or the paint color was changed. Spark cars had either the plain brown, 2 tone biege/brn or black interiors. Also, it seems that you only ever see the rare Keyhole rims on some (but not all) 1st year Spark cars. There is a story buried there somewhere in obscurity I know it. This one had normal waffles.

Of the details which were phased out and in btw 78/79, the air conditioning-fan control switch is the only one that I've saw an actual S/N associated with the point of change. The others are more vauge (buried) as to when the actual change occured. I roughly divide (right or wrongly) 1st year cars into early production (Feb-Aug 78) Mid production (Sept-Dec 78) and late production (Jan-Jun 79) January of 79 is when they incorporated passenger mirrors I believe, but many earlier cars were retro fitted by owners and dealer alike, confusing the whole thing.

One thing rarely mentioned are the seats. Early cars were either the 2 choices of plaid or red dots. Somewhere they incorporated the velour insert seats which were offered in the JDM cars first. I think that may have begun in a few mid production north american vehicles and increased in numbers with the late production cars. In 1980 velour and other inserts was more the norm.
