How would corvette guys feel?

I wonder how corvette enthusiasts would feel if we started buying up vettes and dropping 20b's in them.

I actually would like to do that with a Mustang, but a Corvette would handle better. They would probably just ask why we put some "jap-scrap" engine in a car that already had a good engine.

i'm lazy, i think its much easier to put FD bumpers on a vette than it is to put the vette motor in the rx7.

unless the rest of the vette is that big of a POS

Kevin Landers was talking about putting a rotary in a C4 on the Corvette forums. He got some crap, but it wasn't a total flamefest like you might think. Some were actually supportive of the idea.

^ The reason for that is because it would actually be unique and kind of neat. Not all of the domestic guys are pigheaded. Some like the idea of cool technology.

as a Corvette owner, i think it would be a cool swap but again like putting a V8 in a 7, it just goes against the principal around which the car was built. if Chevy wanted a rotary in the Vette they would have done it when they had the chance in the 70's with the Aerovette. the Vette needs the V8 like Dolly Parton needs her ****.

Considering GM built a couple 4 rotor Vette prototypes, I see no problem doing a 20B conversion. We tend to rag on piston swaps, let them rag on a rotary swap.

I say +239432 That would be a bad *** concept. Big turbo 20b? Why not, it'll make the same power if not more then some v8's.

So... people could put v8's in rx7's but rotary people cannot put a rotary in a domestic? hypocritical...

yep chevy tried their hand at the rotary in the vette but couldn't make it efficient enough to justify

i like to think of it more as a donor organ refusing it's host.......

It is a double standard. The chevy guys do the swap so much because the engines are cheap and it is a throwaway. All you have to do is look at how many times on the drag strips you see other makes with 350s in them. I personally hate the swap in a rotary car I think that it destroys the spirit of the car.

I think it would be fair to say that most of the domestic piston guys would be open minded to such things than a lot of us rotorheads. Ha ha! We are strange folk.

But then again our chassis' and engines are much more rare than their domestic piston engines, so it makes sense that we are more picky about such things.

I like the idea.I have a 73. I think a 20be would be appropriate in a c5 or c6! That would be crazy if you were near it andit fired up!

AMEN TO THAT!!!!!!!!!

keep the 350's in the heavy ***, clunky, "BIGGER is better" american cars

keep the rotaries in the beautiful, sleek, better engineered mazda's

Putting a Rotary in a Vette is to me the same as putting a piston engine in a Rex. Go ahead if you want, it's your money and car. But the Dude said it best "It destroys the spirt of the car" I think that applies to both the Vette and Rx. They are apples and oranges. I love my rotary but I have to admit, my heart skips a beat at a C2 convertabile stingray.......kind of like the difference btween a bruenett and a blonde.

actually I would have said the difference between a blonde(vette) and a redheaded step-child (rotary)

Yes, but by definition, if you have feelings, you're not a REAL "Corvette guy," you're a guy with a Corvette.

(My variation on the "no true Scotsman" fallacy)

Noting the sign on the door, too.

C4 is my favorite of the modern Vettes from a visual design standpoint, by the way. Iconic. When they first came out, the entire automotive world drooled on itself.

well Glen, i'm caught i'm an RX-7 guy that ownes a Corvette. i have an all around appreciation fo cars and this C4 is an amazing machine. its anemic by today's Corvette standards but still quick enough to satisfy me. i'm not a speed demon much anymore. i enjoy cars for what they are and for the purpose they were designed for. the V8 in the Vette does always put a smile on my face..its the 4+3 trans thats kinda hoaky

I too, own a RX-7 and a corvette. As a young child I always dreamed of having a corvette one day, but alas, finances were never right for such a leap. In 1985 my wife and I bought our 1985 Mazda RX-7 and it was our daily driver for years. We still own it to this day..... I did finally purchase my dream car (2003, red, convertible corvette) and it is a dream to drive. But my love for my RX-7 never diminished. I appreciate the beauty/lines of my Rx-7 as I do the vette. Would I drop a rotary in the vette? Well, if it's your car, do with it as you wish! Me, I wouldn't. Now if you have a 20b that you want to give me ...........I'd gladly drop it into my RX-7! Oh, a little note: I get far more complements in my RX-7 than I do my vette!

seems like corvettes are too expensive to enjoy... i procharged a vette for a guy and he hasn't driven since the dyno... he spent more than the value of both of my rx7's on just the supercharger kit and he is afraid to break it......... most rx7 guys i know bolt as much as they can to their 7 and run the **** out of it..... i think that's where the passion part falls into place... most corvette guys have no feelings cause their cars are sittin' in the garage being starred at, waiting to be taken to a parking lot where it will sit some more and be stared at some more.....rx7 guys drive there 7 when at ever possible, then take it to a parking lot to dodge and eat cones....

(just my generalization..... of course there are exceptions to both sides)

if i had my way there would be a rotary in EVERYTHING... im trying to con the wifey into slappin a 13b into the kia.... i'm also trying to get a 12a to fit under the sink to replace the garbage disposal!!!!!!!!!!
