how many guys here have Leather Sports
just wondering how many guys here have a 1980 Leather Sport. there were only 2500 made. 1000 in brilliant black, 1000 in aurora white, and 500 in solar gold. i've got one in solar gold. i think LongDuck has one in brilliant black, and i think ther are a couple other solar golds here.
i have a solar gold with less than 40k
40K? I have seen only another FB with about 40K. but that one was in the junkyard. too bad.
Ive seen a LS in the junkyard. A few LEs too :(

Man, thats a huge bummer^^
If I found LE's in a junk yard I'd be snagging up the rims like nothing else. Get me a pretty penny or two for those suckers.

i almost got a black one on ebay. it went for 450 or something like that. all original but there was a dent in the front fender.
sounds like a good deal for $450. dents are easy to fix. what color was it?
just throwing this back out there to see if we have any more LS owners that are in the woodwork
therx7guy666 has one. His is aurora white.
I seen an LE in the junkyard with the Rims and Centercaps but I didn't want to buy them and get stuck if I couldn't sell them.
i'd be interested in them!!!!

Just send some old seats to a custom shop and get them to slap some leather on em'.
Won't make it a Leather Sport....
i agree with you kymber. the LS is a very neat car. i really need to get out and drive mine more this summer. it looks good in the garage but even better out on the road. here's one pic that was saved before the old hard drive seemed to stop working:

I think I have a leather sport, but mine is a 79 SA. I have a all black 'leather' interior and those burberry black leather seats, if you guys saw my other posts. But I'm not absolutely sure since I don't have those waffle rims and the car is silver
i would say that unfortunatly you do not have an LS. the Leather Sport was a vehicle only produced in 1980, bearing one of three colors, brilliant black, aurora white, or solar gold. there were 1000 brilliant black, 1000 aurora white, and 500 solar gold LS's produced. all LS's came with the solar gold painted wheels and a full size spare with the same paint scheme. the LS was based on the GS sunroof model. i have a very nice solar gold LS with 61K original miles and the car is in excellent condition. there are only a handfull of LS owners here.

what makes it special. I'mn not framilier.
In one of the threads I started...someone told me that leather was not offered in the 79...so I would have to agree that the 79 is not an LS

Was the 80 LS the only car to have the gold waffles??? I'm curious because I was told there was a gold 80 with gold waffles in a salvage yard in Montgomery, AL....wish it wasn't so far away...I need some waffles for both of my SAs....
If that's the case, though, it's a shame...DublyDurty went there this morning and said the car is an absolute mess....other than the waffles...LOL |
the LS was the only 7 to have the waffle wheels. you should buy the one in the boneyard!
That's a nice LS you have there mazdaverx713b. This is kind of off-topic, but I was wondering how many people have a 79 LE? Like the LS, I believe there weren't many LE's produced. Just curious, as I have one myself.

i should rephrase by saying that the LS was the only SA to have the solar gold waffle wheels from the factory.
there were 3000 Limited's produced in 79. all were produced in Beat Black and had special wheels and pin striping, a personalized decal, special seats that matched the pinstriping, a quartz digital clock, and were based on the GS sunroof model. |

Hmm...I guess you must have saved the pictures from the eBay auction because that's my car in the pictures above. :)
did you buy that car ?..... how much? |
mazdaverx i have the same rims as you but in silver. In my country Australia. I'm the only SA RX-7 i have seen with them. I thought they were just the stock ones for the 79-80 models.
the aluminum waffle wheels are the OEM wheel for the SA. the solar gold painted wheels were specific to the U.S. spec Leather Sport.

i have half a mind to drive there and buy the whole car. there were only 500 Solar Gold LS's made..... it pains me to see one in that condition. i would restore the car to factory specs.
Yeah, that is painful to see, too bad its so far away I'd save it too!
I wish I could afford to save her...I do need the wheels...at least I can possibly save those...if someone does happen to have the ability to go and save her, by all means, do so...
Do you have any contact information on the junkyard in Montgomery that has this LS? And in general, how did the LS gauge cluster differ from a standard 80 RX-7?
the gauge clusters are the same in an LS as they are in any other 79-80 RX-7
