Hi everyone!
ok, so I can't post in technical forums until my post count reaches 10. Im at 3 with this one being # 4. I figured I would introduce myself.
My name is Peter and I am a rotor head. Or at least I think I am. In my own head at least
Most likely will be purchasing my first RX7 soon… had an RX8 in the past. This time I want something I can have fun in without worrying so much about the cost of initial purchase..
Any suggestions as to what years are best for this? I am a huge stickler for comfort fit wise, ride wise I can always fix. I also don't like cheap crap or poorly made cars so if you can keep that in mind, I would appreciate it
Looking forward to a redline a day!
Thanks!
Peter

Well you're in the right generation my friend.
First gens are a good, fun, light weight car. They can take what you want to throw at them and they'll smile back. Just depends on what you want to do with it.
I would look for a S2 rx7 because they are the most common and you can pick them up for a decent price in alright condition.
I own 2 S1 rx7's because I like their steel bumper and non 80's look, but that's just me.
Welcome and good luck/have fun!

Thanks! I was thinking about owning a carb version but I live in California and if that puppy doesn't pass smog I am in trouble. I figure Fuel Injection would be best… Any idea how the FI has held up over 30 years? Can you still get parts for the FI?
Thanks again
Thanks again

In '84 and '85 Mazda came out with the GSL-SE, a fuel injected 13b. So you can go that route and have 4x114 bolt pattern for better wheel selection.
Or you can buy a fb with a 12a and carburetor and swap over a 13b with fuel injection from a second gen (fc) Rx7 and do all of the supporting mods till you're happy with it.
Yes, fuel injected parts can be found but not for a 12a engine from what I know.
If you do get a fuel injected car it's a good idea to do a deep cleaning of all the fuel injected parts to make sure they're 100%.
