A Friend's Awesome '85 FB Project Car
Hey Guys,
Well I'm having an impact on my friends,
My friend Marc just bought this beauty.
'85, GS, Grey Interior (without power windows) and despite the small surface rust spots here and there, the underside was undercoated so it's MINT. There's less bin rust on it than mine, which is saying a lot (mine has barely any, and what's there is surface only)
Stock as hell. We're collecting parts and bits to prep it for the safety inspection so we can get plates on it and drive it.
The previous owner (or one of them) was a ricer-ish kid and started painting things blue all over the place, so we've got to find some interior trim pieces and stuff.
We're Looking For (shameles plug of for sale thread, lol)
- Rear Panels (around the hatch area that cover the rear speakers and shock mounts)
- Interior Door Panels
- Interior Door Handles (if we can't get the panels, at least the handles)
- Centre Change Holder
- Storage Bins (or at least a set of lids)
- Dome Light Assembly with Lens
- Taillights
And if we come across an FC Fuse Box, we'll grab it for sure. I hate the stock fusibles.
I can foresee awesomeness for this project. The possibilities are endless. We've already removed the carb for rebuilding and started stripping the engine bay.
Here, have some pics, enjoy!
Here's the car on it's wheels when we went to pick it up. Yes, the previous owner painted the drums and calipers. Lame . So we're replacing them anyway. That muffler is bound to be FORKIN' loud too when we get it started.
Here's the car on the u-haul. That trailer came a long way, it's plated for Louisiana, but we rented all the way up here in Canada!
Here you can see us offloading the car. If you look, you can see my baby parked on the street in the background. Gotta love our FBs!
Here's his engine bay. As stock as stock can be. That'll change a little now, but a LOT after the safety check.
Here's the engine bay after pulling the carb, alt, air pump, rat's nest and doing a TON of cleaning. The shutter valve, as usual, had siezed full-open, so we removed it and will block off the holes. Compressed air, wire brushes, shop towels all got used capriciously.

I was kind of debating what to do...
I've got a 2nd Gen coil, but since the whole Transistor Trick thing fizzled, I don't even know if it's worth putting it on. DLIDFIS is cool, but takes up a lot of room and we don't have the fab stuff to make the bracket. So I'm not sure what I'll do in terms of ignition yet.
I'm really hoping that somebody either finds or makes a stand-alone ignition controller that can trigger off a 2nd Gen CAS and fire a direct-fire coil of some kind.
Someone said they *thought* They'd heard of that before, for a piston engine, and thought it might be adaptable but I don't know of any details.
For now we're doing the "Jon level tune-up". We rebuilt the carb last weekend and it will slowly get upgrades... but it's going to be my guinea pig for things like a full-body restoration paint job and ReSpeed rack kit That is of course if that's the way Marc wants to go with it
