Finally back after a year

I just got back from my tour in Afghanistan and I got to wake up the RX7 and RX8 today. Everything went as good as could be expected. Both cars were kept in a non-climate controlled storage unit with a car cover. I think I covered all appropriate preparations for storage and removal was great. I checked all fluids and topped up as needed. There were no obvious fluid leaks. both storage units were clean under the cars. After the fluids were topped off I tried to start the RX8. Battery was re-connected but it was completely dead. The battery was two years old before it went into 1 year of storage so I don't feel too bad about it dying. I hooked up the jumper cables and it started right up after turning over 2-3 times. Idle was perfect. Temperature was perfect. There were no new noises from driving down the road and everything seems perfect. I ordered a new battery so after that gets replaced all is good.

The RX7 is fine too. I have a good sound system in that car so it has been equipped with an Optima yellow top for three years. The yellow top is still as strong as it was three years ago. After start up, the 7 smoked like a mosquito truck for about 20 minutes. That is likely due to canned oil I sprayed in the engine before I stored it, but I forget what that stuff is called. It wouldn't maintain idle at first, but after about 15 minutes and a quick trip around the block it idles just fine. But, my oil pressure gauge doesn't work anymore. My oil level is fine, just the gauge stopped working, so i'll have to look into that.

My tires are still good too. I over inflated them before I put them in storage, and there are no flat spots in the tires. There are no vibrations and both cars are still in perfect alignment. I'm so happy to be back in my cars. Now i'm just waiting on the new stickers for my license plates so I will be legal.

Welcome home. With any luck, these trips will become fewer and farther inbetween. A battery tender will go a long way in extended storage applications. I had six batteries sitting for 16 months. I'm still using them all w/o any hickups whatsoever.

Welcome back! 2 more rotaries on the road with someone driving them who actually knows what's under the hood. Nice.

Yes, Optima has always treated me well. Now, can I get an Optima motorcycle battery? I have never had a motorcycle battery survive sitting for very long. Those things are weak! Haha, I'm glad to have my two rotaries back on the road, but I'm not missing the way they drink gas. I am not even getting 200 miles out of one tank in my RX8. I guess my motorcycle will see a lot of time on the road.

glad your back and good to hear the ole GSL-SE is still doing well. I have not built one since that one. Make sure the wire is still connected on the motor for the iol pressure. Maybe you bumped it before you left or a mouse did.
That car should run forever........
