That actualy sounds unreal not saying you are lying but the only time i raced my 7 was against an n/a 300zx (unsure of mods but motor is rated at 160 hp stock) but it was a z31 (ended in 88 i think ) and i just beat him by a fender (very exciting)! My setup at that time was a racing beat intake mann, dhla 48, 2 holey blues,rb roadrace headers to strait pipe (crazy loud), and blaster coils again not sure what was in his Z but it coudnt have been much at all. And you lost by only 2 cars to a z32 300zx and even on the n/a models the motor was rated at over 200hp I kno i woulde have lost i barely beat a z31 and acording to what you stated you have less mods than i did at the time so i want to know wtf did you possibly do to keep up with him seems kinda magical unless you infact raced an older z like i did that actualy makes plenty of sense!

Sounds about right to me if he doesn't have any mods done to the Z32. Assume he is totally stock at 3300 pounds with about 220 hp. You are about 2200 pounds with probably 115 hp. Power to weight ratio says you lose, but probably not by a whole lot. The rest comes down to driver experience, freshest clutch, tires, etc.

this was the 90 model, like the one that has the TT, but it was n/a i went from a 45 roll, and he only was ahead of me by 2 car links, the only thing i have done is what i said, blaster coils, k&n filter header back exhaust, and clutch fan delete and air pump delete, i let off at the top of 4th and was right at about 2 car/3 links, no lie i thought that was insane inless the 300 wasnt giving it all

i had a good run with a n/a 3000 gt the other day. 94 model with the twin cam motor that was swapped in. idk if the original motor was single or twin cam but car was definately suprising for just intake, exhaust and a little port work. i got him almost 2 cars off the line but i have some yokohama tires that are really sticky. he didnt pull past me till around 80 and it was very slowly. never had a run with a 300 zx yet though

Thats true i ddnt take into acout how shitty my tires were at the time and also how much heavier the z32 is compared to the older z31. The n/a z32 2+2 wheighs about 3,549 compared to the z31t 2+2 (heaviest z31 made) at only 2,888. So thats does sound about right you raced a Z that was about 600 more pounds than the one i raced and only had about 60 more hp. Assuming im also not sure what was in the z31 i raced.

my best race was against a 07 7 series bmw my setup was 13b streetport, 48 dellorto, aluminum flywheel, short shifter, clutch, oil baffel pan, rb exhaust system (i had a road racing setup) and he was trying to look cool so it kinda annoyed me so i decided to catch up to him i passed him on fourth gear doing way over 120 reving farther than my stock tach could read...and it was a straight road neither so i felt good that my 83 out performed an 07 bmw

Don't waste your time with straight line racing. Invite them to the twisties and kick all their asses.

That what I do, because I know most cars will dominate my little 7 in a straight line. A few nights ago I had a guy in a mustang gt want to race me, it was the early 90's like a 94 with the 5.0 (4.9) in it. I was like sure I'll run against you I know this really sweet curvey section about 10 minutes away. He then said no way, I laughed at him, he then said "I only live my life a quarter mile at a time" I lol'd hard and walked away.

I eat Cobras on the road couses for breakfast--albiet my car is not stock. Last event, there was a green late 90's Cobra whose a*s I was riding through the curves (in HPDE II you can only pass in designated passing zones). I get to the straight passing zone and he is not waving me by (also required). I blow by him anyway and look over just in time to see what George Bush would have called "shock and awe".

Turbo charge that thing and you won't have to have any excuses such as "I'll beat you in the twisties". Turbo, and beat them anywhere!

The OP race sounds about as exciting as a box turttle and a catapillar having at it.

Agreed completely. In my previous (piston car :p) life, I could hang with the NA Z32 or Z31 in my near stock 96 Maxima with a manual tranny. And regularly outrun them if the driver wasn't very good. That was the ultimate sleeper, black 4 door sedan with that suhweet VQ30. I doubt I was making over 200, but it's a pretty light car (around 2800) with a torque curve outta hell, and it would freaking go!

Dammit how did this thread make me want another Nissan?
