Engine bay on fire :X

Well maybe not full flames but man, I was wondering why there was extra residue on the right front fender...

Turns out the intake part on the carb hat (black plastic thing) was melted off and hanging on the engine mount (Not melted there) also some wires melted right there a tad

The carb hat + hood + everything in that area is like near black looks like the "pre carb heater hose?" was blowing out hot exhaust on the black tube and made it start burning?

Any ideas lol, engine bay looks horrible now

Any chance you recently reinstalled your battery and put it in the wrong direction. I had a bad bay fire due to this because it arcs to the hood and melts all kinds of plastic.

My brother's car had an engine fire in the same spot before he got it. The black plastic snorkle thing melted off onto the motor mount and it ruined the hood paint in a small area. I had access to a parts car so I replaced the wiring harness and lots of other parts that were damaged. PercentSevenC helped clean the engine bay paint. Now it all looks pretty in there but the hood is still burnt looking in that one area. Hopefully yours didn't get that hot.

I bought my FB in Ohio. The owner had some type of undercoating in the engine compartment. There is absolutely no rust under my hood what so ever and it sat for a bit.

Nah, I still had some rust to clean up. I just didn't have to worry about screwing around under the hood. But I need to take the time to scrape that crap off. I'll do it once my engine pops after i finish school (hopefully).

cmanns, are you referring to that white hose going from the exhaust manifold heat shield up to the air box? If so get rid of that thing its a waste of time and it just puts hot air into the carb... Good luck cleaning the car up, post some before and after pics.
