Did antenna mast lengths change over the years of the gen1?

I am in antenna hell at the moment.

I have an '82 GSL.

The antenna got stuck in the up position, couldn't put car cover on. I tried to manually feed the antenna down but it was stuck solid.

Got the rear taillight out (separate thread), then pulled the antenna only to discover that the antenna I bought for someone else on this forum is 2-3" shorter than the one that came out of my car.

See attached pic. The one out of my car is on the left, the shorter one I bought here is on the right. Note as well that while the mounting points are in the same places, the metal bodies containing the antenna winding are a slightly different as well.

Any idea on what I should do?

I already popped open the winding mechanism on the one that came off the car and was able to roll it back down manually.

And I see that it has some sort of antenna position sensor ring gear in the winding mechanism, but I didn't make note of the relationship between the sensor gear ring on the metal winding body and the motor gear on the plastic body.

And the motor gear won't turn.

Could I have a bad motor?

Could I cannibalize the shorter antenna for the motor?

Step I is I want to put 12v to it, but not sure about the wiring.

I am guessing the red is power, the ground is thru the metal body, then to the car chassis thru one of the lower (metal body) mounting bolts.

What are the blue and blue-green wires. Control of some sort?

Where can I put 12v to test?

Any advice on how to proceed would be most appreciated.

this will help if u haven't already downloaded urself a copy: https://web.archive.org/web/20181225...age=rx7manual: White Horse Road near Roe Ford

i wold probably guess red is the +12v and the other two, one up, the other down. and of course ground to the mount. and too i could be waaaayyy off. so i'd look at a wiring diagram.
